Xbox division up 15% in revenue this quarter, comprises 20% of Microsoft's total

Microsoft announced its Q2 earnings report earlier today, with the Xbox's Entertainment & Devices division jumping up 15% to $4.24 billion in revenue for the quarter ending on December 31, 2011. Over 40 million people now subscribed to Xbox Live, a number that's up 33% from this time last year. Microsoft also announced that it has to date sold 66 million Xbox 360 units worldwide, along with 18 million Kinect units.
Microsoft's total revenue for Q2 was a record $20.9 billion, up 5% from this time last year. So roughly one-fifth of that record-breaking total can be attributed to the Xbox's Entertainment & Devices division. This is a record high for the Entertainment & Devices's contribution to Microsoft's bottom line, which is usually primarily dictated by revenue generated by the Business Division that sells Windows products.
"In addition to the continued strength of our commercial business, this holiday season was the strongest in Microsoft history, thanks to good sales execution and compelling products like Xbox 360 and Kinect," said Kevin Turner, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft.
