Video playback on the 360 is worse since Metro dashboard update

The new Metro Xbox dashboard’s reception was hit-and-miss. While there are some promising features and upgrades to be happy about, there are just as many aspects to be disappointed by. Thanks to Eurogamer and Digital Foundry, there is yet another reason to complain about the new dashboard. According to a technical study Digital Foundry did comparing the New Xbox Experience to the Metro dash, the colors are now much more washed out, and the blacks have become more gray. Additionally, the report states “tweaking the reference levels on the 360 dashboard to settings other than "Expanded" simply compromised the image still further,” and “macroblocking that would be otherwise be less apparent within darker colours is now more readily visible.” To make matters even worse, Microsoft knew about the issues, but did nothing about it.
The video playback problems were first reported during beta testing of the Metro dashboard, but Microsoft dismissed those who pointed out the issue with the following response: "Thanks for the feedback! Though we will not be able to incorporate your feedback into this release we will save it for consideration in future releases. Thanks for using the new Xbox Update and please keep up the feedback!"
Any subsequent mention of the issue was then deleted from threads, which made it appear as if the issue never existed at all. It’s a strange move, particularly when you consider how much effort Microsoft put into the Metro dashboard bringing the 360 ever closer to being a full-on media center. We can only hope that Microsoft will be working on a fix with so many people bringing this issue to light.

Personally I liked the NXE better. The first thing I noticed about the new dash is that the whites were BLINDING. I had to tweak the color and contrast and brightness so extremely on my tv that it made everything look wrong. The white backgrounds in every tab i opened seriously gave me a headache in less than a minute. The first week of the new dash was horrible for me until I finally tweaked it good enough. I barely stayed on the dashboard at all since I couldn't bare to look at it. Other than that problem, it's so much harder to find content you want using the new dash. Sure on the NXE it was a bit tedious to scroll through so many tabs just to find what you want but at least you knew where to look. My biggest complaint about finding something is with the new release add-ons section. It's almost entirely spammed with new rockband songs every damn day that I have to scroll forever just to find a regular game add-on. They should have implemented a tab solely for the purpose of looking for new rockband tracks or just direct you to the rockband music store. It's such a pain in my ass to have to see so many songs listed in the new releases every single time I check it out. What's the point of having the rock band store app if they're just going to throw them all in the new release section anyways? I say go back to the NXE and keep the newer dash solely for when you have a Kinect connected and turned on. Why can't we have both? It's stupid to have a dash that's designed with Kinect in mind to be standard even for the gamers who don't want anything to do with motion gaming. Also one last thing... all this advertising crap on LIVE and having 100 different apps that do the same thing (watching movies and tv) becoming the main focus on Xbox LIVE is ridiculous. Microsoft needs to stick with what made us 360 fans buy the console in the first place, GAMES GAMES GAMES!!! We all love them, we all play them, and we all want more. Stop making them take a backseat to adverts and apps. Do we really need more video apps??? In my opinion, Netflix and HBO GO are all you need when it comes to watching movies and shows and of course Zune for the option of keep what ones you want. That is all for now, I'll rant more later on some other topic. lol Later!
