Tony Hawk may debut new game this weekend

After years and years of standard Tony Hawk skateboarding titles being released, interest started to wane. So to take things to the next level, and in an effort to inject some new blood into the stagnant franchise, Activision released Tony Hawk: Ride, which came with a skateboard peripheral. One year, and another terrible game later, the Tony Hawk franchise was dead. But now, the Birdman may be planning a comeback.
On his Twitter account, Tony Hawk revealed he’s got something planned for this weekend. “I'll be announcing the upcoming release of something new on Sat; the same day as the Spike Video Game Awards. Coincidence? I think not,” the skating icon said. The tweet was spotted by Joystiq, who were quick to point out the last Tony Hawk game sold only 3000 copies in its first week. Those numbers are nothing to brag about, and have us wondering just how much gas can possibly be left in the Tony Hawk tank.
We’ll be watching to see just what Tony Hawk has to show off. Could it be a return to the old-school style, or will Activision test the waters with a more established peripheral and produce Kinect-based skating game? What do you think? Is the gaming world ready to embrace Tony Hawk once again?
