Tomb Raider 15th anniversary art exhibit

2011 is a year that has seen and will see a ton of different anniversaries and birthdays for gaming’s top tier. Everything from Xbox to Halo to Grand Theft Auto III’s gamechanging 3D open-world experience — they’re all celebrating milestones this year. But what about gaming’s leading lady and her first spelunk-a-dunk into the bowels of the messy polygonal earth back in 1996?
That’s right, Tomb Raider and Lara Croft are popping the champagne on the series’ fifteenth year in existence. And Crystal Dynamics (though the Redwood City, CA–based studio wasn’t the series’ original developer — that honor lies with now-defunct, UK developer Core) and Square-Enix are seizing the opportunity by giving Ms. Croft her own digital art online art exhibit with what they’re calling “legacy artists and fresh faces” a chance to show off their impressive illustrating skills by unveiling a new piece of art/editorial of Lara every few days until October 28th over on the studio's website

First up is Andy Park’s (illustrator for an assortment of comics from Image Comics, Top Cow, Marvel, and more, in the past, including serving as the original illustrator on the Tomb Raider comic book series — before moving onto films and TV series) interpretation of the new Lara Croft entitled "Rebirth." Square-Enix teases that there'll be more content uploaded including a featured piece from Toby Gard, the man credited as the main co-creator of the series and Lara Croft. The celebration is set to culminate in super-fans' ability to buy posters and T-shirts, with a portion of the proceeds going to Child's Play.
But more importantly — who’ll find a way to work that T-Rex into one of their "modernized Lara" illustrations?
