Stuff To Do While Waiting for the Xbox Live Dashboard Update

By now you may have noticed that the Xbox Live Dashboard update that was supposed to have happened today, hasn't. Instead, the update has been “slightly delayed,” according to the Twitter feed of Microsoft spokesperson Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb.
“We are still working to get the release out. Stay tuned, we’ll have an update this afternoon (PT) on when it will begin rolling out,” Hryb tweeted earlier today. (Update: According to Major Nelson, Dashboard updates will begin shortly.)
There's been no specific explanation for the update's delay from Microsoft, but even if they did give us one, it's probably pretty technical and we'd likely stop paying attention four words in.
In the meantime, here are some suggestions for stuff to do while you wait for the update to hit besides hitting refresh on Major Nelson's Twitter:
- Check out our preview of the Dashboard update in picture form.
- Read our initial reaction to the new TV and media services being rolled out with the update.
- See if you can download a free app that'll transform your phone into an Xbox remote control.
- Listen to the latest episode of our podcast.
- Read an interview with the guy who helped assemble the "Halo Story Bible" for Microsoft.
- Watch video of some guy from the ‘80s whistling “Georgia On My Mind.” (Actually, you should just go ahead and do that anyway below, via Videogum.)

Nice mullet on that whistling guy! I was part of the Fall Dashboard Preview program and the new dash is fast except when you hit the Guide button. I still think that's the biggest hinderance in this version of the OS. Outside of loading menus that don't populate real-time data, that's what I need to populate quickly, the essential data. I also downloaded the new network apps and it's not at all what I anticipated. I have the new version of Netflix and that thing is horrible! It's all, for a lack of a better term and to honor Andy, Kinectified! For Kinect to be an add-on device and supposedly not too intrusive to your Xbox experience, it's truly been centered around the new changes of the OS and apps. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but obviously not that good at this juncture.
