State of Decay review

State of Decay is what a zombie apocalypse game should look like. It's not as glossy as Dead Island and the characters here are ordinary people relying more on stealth than guns. Because of excellent gameplay, gamers don't mind the graphics and glitches but I hope that these would be fixed in the coming PC version. Many say that the storyline is weak - I don't agree. I think you have to go through the missions to get a clear view of the story as well as character development and perhaps you also use a State of Decay walkthrough.

I've been following this game for a few months now and am pretty excited. This seems like a real cool change of pace from the usual zombie games and while I'm usually not a fan of perma-death I think I'll be able to live with it and it'll probably add to the tension. I'm downloading it right now and after I've played through a little bit I might update this post. Hopefully I won't be dissapointed but to be honest I've bought a pretty good number of XBLA titles and I've not really hit one I don't like on some sort of level.

Hope you like it. I have really enjoyed it thus far. Almost finished I believe. Frankly I don't have any big gripes with it and even though I've been waiting a few years I expected something might jump out at me as wrong, but nothing big. Well worth it as a $20 XBLA game, love it! Everyone should try it out. Play the trial version and if you enjoy that at all know that it just grows on you the more you play it. (For me anyway) Hope it has been successful and they can get to work on a next-gen sequel (after patching-in co-op in this one like they said they may do. Please Undead Labs).

Is friendly fire an issue?

I've been following this for a long time now and I'm happy it turned out well.

The reason why zombies can go over a wall and not up ladders is simple.  Zombies are simple creatures moved by instinct, not by thought.  Throwing yourself up and over a wall is nothing special and is actually basic.  Taking a step one after the other up an incline perfectly on the other hand actually requires somewhat of a thought process, something zombies dont.  Zombies only need and want is to feed, nothing more.  It's their only instinct.

Just one point, I don't think the perma-death should be lumped in under the negative category. It's nice to see such a logical inclusion in this game.

That's actually exactly why I qualified it with "...may bug some players." Some players will undoubtedly enjoy the near-panic it creates when you get into really dire trouble with a favorite character. :)
