Skyrim getting Kinect integration later this month
You may recall a few months ago, Bethesda’s game director Todd Howard released a demo reel from the Skyrim Game Jam during his DICE 2012 keynote address. The footage was full of experimental gameplay mechanics, concepts, and updates for Skyrim that we thought would likely never see the light of day. Fortunately for all of us, Bethesda decided to continue working on one concept from programmer Ricardo Gonzalez: Kinect compatibility.
In the above video, Bethesda reveals that a title update coming later this month will integrate more than 200 voice commands into Skyrim. Not only will players finally be able to shout the recently-trademarked “Fus Ro Dah” and any other Dragon Shouts they’ve learned, but now you’ll be able to direct companions, equip weapons and armor, and quick save all by merely speaking the command aloud. Not having to navigate the cumbersome menus of the game when trying to access items to either equip or sell to vendors in Skyrim is a great new addition, as is the ability to finally be able to sort your items by weight and value. It doesn’t look as if dialogue options can be spoken aloud, but that seems like a small grievance compared to the plentiful ways Kinect will otherwise be implemented.
There’s no exact date yet for the title update, but rest assured, we’re eagerly anticipating this great new addition to an already stellar title.
