Saw 2

Ever woken up in the middle of a dirty, abandoned warehouse with a modified bear trap on your head? One that’s ready to snap shut unless you dig beneath your eye with a scalpel and get the key to unlock it? No? Ever wanted to try? For horror gamers with a mind for puzzle-solving and button-spamming, here’s your golden ticket back into the nightmare world of gory survival, with a sequel set in the interim between the first two Saw movies.

As the son of original hero Detective Tapp, you’ve stepped into psycho-killer Jigsaw’s playground at the start of Saw 2 — and there’s no easy way out. Just like the first game, you’ll come up against both brain-teasing and skill-based puzzles like the aforementioned, cringe-worthy bear trap. During our hands-on time with the game we learned the unpleasant truth: in order to carve out that key, you have to pay attention to three screens in the background. Each one displays different words on it: Fear, Survive, Freedom. A Y-button prompt appears above each screen at various times, so mashing it when it’s over, say, “Freedom” increases your chance of getting out. But hit Y while it’s over “Fear” and you might not like the results. Unless your name’s Jigsaw, that is.
