Saints Row dev: an anti-used game Xbox would be “fantastic”

Go to the article and read it. I like how the author wants to rip off his state for tax money (2nd to last sentence) but still wants his share in the secondary market. How can I take him seriously?

I understand that developers loose money on used game but wanting that option to be removed is idiotic. If it weren't for used games I probably wouldn't have played half the games I have. It's a cheper option and places like GameStop actually allow you to return games. If you buy a game from a place like Walmart and you don't like it or it doesn't work you are out 60 bucks. There are also other ways for the devs to make money on thier games. I don't always buy DLC because after a while it gets way too expensive. If I buy a used game for cheap though I am way more likely to put those savings toward map packs and stuff. My other problem with this is what might happen to rentals or even borrowing games from friends and family? I've heard this rumor from a couple other places as well and I for one hope that Microsoft does not implement something like this on the next system. If they do I may just have to convert to Playstation when the next next gen consoles come out.

The fact probably lost in all this is that the person who made the comments is a DEVELOPER. Not sure the publishers would agree with him. This would be a bad idea,A lot of people (such as students, and others) can only afford games if they get them 2nd hand. Others ,like myself, are willing to buy a new game becasue a) we can use old games to trade in for them, and b) we know that down the track when we are finished we might be able to recoup a bit of the costs. If they think everyone who buys a 2nd hand game will automatically buy a brand new version if the 2nd hand was not available, they are mistaken. What about the people who can only afford to buy a new game with trade ins? All those new game sales will be lost.Retailers will go broke - they make all their money from 2nd hand games (here in Australia). New game sales will all go to oversees imports because they are cheaper and no one has the money to buy them here. We can't trade in our old games to pay for new ones, so oversees we go. With no retailers to sell their games, theyll be totally reliant on import sales (in Australia anyway). To cut out 2nd hand sales would mean the games wholesale price will have to reduce dramatically. Are they prepared to do that?Thats the economic danger right there. The fact is, most of the 2nd hand games traded in have paid for new games - without that option for consumers, new game sales will come down a lot. I would guess up to 50%. People aren't going to buy many games if they know once they finish playing them they have a useless disc left over.AND what of taking your FIFA game or Guitar Hero game over to a mates house to play? And the simple freedom to do as you please with your property? All other issues, all of which pretty much point to removing 2nd hand games as a very bad idea for the industry.

This is the issue I have with this is that yes I wish they would lock ussed games but then you better be willing to offer me the digital copy of my game for free. Especially if I am not going to be able to sell my game back then I better be able to download my game onto any console that I am using my gamertag on. I am sorry I think it is ridiculous that if you are going to restrict me selling the game back and then make me carry around the physical copy of my hame is just ludacrious. Let me download the game for free then on any ohter console.
