Rumor: Star Wars: Battlefront III coming later this year

If the reports are true, then it appears that Spark Unlimited, the studio behind Legendary: The Box and Call of Duty: Finest Hour, may be working on the next game in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. According to a thorough compilation of job listings and Linkdin profiles on PlayStation Lifestyle, not only is Spark Unlimited working on a high-profile sci-fi sequel, but also it’s apparently slated to arrive later this year.
The job listing calls for “a senior combat designer for a 3rd Person Action/Adventure sequel in a high-profile science fiction franchise currently greenlit for full production development for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC markets.” LinkedIn profiles reveal that the project, supposedly in development for the last three years, will also be running on the Unreal Engine and Kynapse AI middleware, and may have had some sort of sword fighting mechanics. It makes total sense that a third-person action game set in the Star Wars universe would indeed have sword fighting, and we can’t think of too many other high-profile sci-fi shooter sequels that would include swords.
While Star Wars: Battlefront III is still anything but confirmed, fans have been clamoring for another game in the series for years. A true current generation entry would potentially make a lot of people happy, and breathe new life into a much-loved franchise.
