Roundtable: Our most-anticipated 2012 games

As we stand in the calm before the storm of 2012 videogames, the OXM staff each chime in with their most anticipated 2012 game. We've been able to play many of 2012's biggest games over the last few months, but now we're picking our favorite upcoming game. Read on to see if we choose your favorite 2012 title!
QUESTION: What 2012 game are you looking forward to the most?
FRANCESCA REYES, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF:
There are too many games looming in 2012 that I want to play, but skipping my personal anticipated stuff like Lollipop Chainsaw and Halo 4 for something that's arriving much sooner... I have to go with Mass Effect 3. I don't know where the story will lead me, but I'm on pins and needles to see how the adventure (and crew) I started all the way back in 2007 will end five years later. I've been trying to avoid any spoilers, so when I load up my string of saves from ME1 and ME2, it'll all be shiny and new for me the minute I step back onboard the Normandy. I'm also super interested to see what kind of new stuff, gameplay- and features-wise, BioWare has added in. Will there be more sidequests? Are there any planets left to discover? Do I have to stripmine the crap out of stuff again? Bring on the Thresher Maws, already!
COREY COHEN, EXECUTIVE EDITOR:
This year has so many games I'm looking forward to (Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, I Am Alive...), I had to really think about my answer. But when I picture the one game I'll be most excited to dive into — you know, the kind of game you clear off the rest of your day (or night) for, fix yourself a big snack, and THEN start playing — it's got to be BioShock Infinite. Mainly because even though we've seen a few slices of it, I still don't really know what to expect. How will it feel to ride those zipline-like skylines? What'll happen with your character and Elizabeth, the woman you're trying to save? I can't wait to find out.
RYAN MCCAFFREY, SENIOR EDITOR:
If the world does end in December, we’re going out with a bang on Xbox. It’s almost ridiculous how many generation-topping efforts are on the way this year, but the one that excites me the most is Grand Theft Auto V. Like Harmonix with music games and Bethesda Game Studios with open-world RPGs, Rockstar North is a developer whose talents are so head and shoulders above everyone else when it comes to the sandbox genre that there literally isn’t anyone else who can do what they do. Though their world-building, comedy-writing, and tech wizardry jell to create brilliance every time, it’s probably also the fact that Rockstar North can’t or, more likely, won’t annualize their series like so many other big franchises that helps get me so excited for each new one, turning every game into a true event. My bags are packed for Los Santos, Rockstar. When do we leave?
KEVIN W. SMITH, FEATURES EDITOR:
I'm looking forward to games like Lollipop Chainsaw and even Alan Wake's American Nightmare, but no game is spelling out 2012 for me like the promise of BioShock Infinite. There's political and class warfare going on in the story, an AI companion in Elizabeth that seems like she's really going to push the boundaries of anything we've seen before, the creepiness of the Songbird, and just the fact the game looks so damn pretty. I'm willing to listen to a variety of different opinions about games people are anticipating, but I just think anyone who says anything other than BioShock Infinite is lying.
ALAINA YEE, MANAGING EDITOR:
Ever since I saw the first trailer for BioShock Infinite, I've been dreaming about Columbia and what mysteries and secrets I'll get to discover in it. The relationship between Booker and Elizabeth also has me intrigued: how attached will they get? What will their partnership end up developing into? What's the deal with Elizabeth's past and Songbird, anyway? And will I get motion sick when riding a zipline? I actually can't wait to find out.
DAVE RUDDEN, WEB EDITOR:
Even though its development has been pretty tumultuous, I’m still confident that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be crazy-awesome (emphasis on crazy). Last year’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection afforded me the opportunity to re-integrate myself into FOXHOUND, and I’ve been spending any free game time over the last few weeks to playing through the few adventures of Snake and Raiden I’ve missed. Platinum Games has been a pretty solid action-game developer since their inception, and I can’t wait to see what they do with the game’s swordplay. If I could just get a smidge of stealth in there, I’ll be set.
DAVE CORDON, ART DIRECTOR:
I can't wait for the holiday release of Tomb Raider. I love a good reboot and I am eager to see what kind of origin story they've created for this new young and realistic Lara.

Yep, Mass Effect 3 for me as well, but Bioshock Infinite, Halo 4, GTA 5, The Witcher 2 on 360, and even Kingdoms of Amalur for a new IP have me exited. Another huge year with not enough time or money for everything. (Also the inevitable Skyrim expansion(s), but that's another beast altogether.)
