Roundtable: Our 2012 gaming-related New Year's resolutions

With a New Year upon us, each of the OXM staffers presents their resolution for 2012, presented through the prism of videogames. Between checking out under-appreciated games, cleaning up our backlog, and other assorted game-focused objectives, we've got big plans for 2012!
QUESTION: What is your 2012 New Year's resolution?
FRANCESCA REYES, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF:
I hate New Year’s resolutions! I never stick to them, but I still always secretly make them. The ones for this year? Finally participate in a half-marathon, stay overnight in an igloo, read a book for every game I finish, and save humanity from the Reapers. Oh, that last one I’ll be doing in March. Shortly before reading a book.
COREY COHEN, EXECUTIVE EDITOR:
To watch more movies! I’ve been in full-on gaming and TV-vegging mode the last few months (loving Breaking Bad and Supernatural, becoming bored with The Walking Dead), but something had to give, so I’m incredibly behind on the cinematic front. I think I need some imaginary Achievements to motivate me. That’s it: Moviescore!
RYAN MCCAFFREY, SENIOR EDITOR:
Easy one for me: get my baby daughter to fall asleep before 11pm so I can play some games! Currently, I’m lucky to get in one or two hours of gaming a night, so at this rate I’ll finish Skyrim in approximately... the year 2025. I hear stories of parents getting their kids to sleep at 8pm. I can only dream of such a scenario.
KEVIN W. SMITH, FEATURES EDITOR:
I’d like to play more Xbox Live Arcade games. So often I find myself just struggling to keep up with retail and indie games, that the XBLA games often slip between the cracks. I’m going to make a special effort to explore all the awesome XBLA offerings, be they new games or HD remakes of favorites, during the upcoming year.
ALAINA YEE, MANAGING EDITOR:
To not have a backlog of games from previous calendar years. (Given that my plan for this holiday break was to try to catch up on just THREE games from 2011, I know on some level I’m kidding myself — but still, I think this resolution is more attainable than actually going to the gym regularly, which is something else I keep telling myself I'll do.) If I manage to achieve this lofty goal, it pretty much means no one will see me at all during the months of January through June as I catch up. Spring? Socialization? What are those?
DAVE RUDDEN, WEB EDITOR:
To use my Kinect more. Besides using it to review Rise of Nightmares and Hulk Hogan’s Main Event (shudder), I’ve rarely interacted with it. I’ve got copies of Child of Eden and The Gunstringer gathering dust, and since my fellow editors have rated them as good as the Xbox’s controller-based games, I’ve got no excuse to keep ignoring them.
DAVE CORDON, ART DIRECTOR:
Thanks to HD remakes, I have a chance to replay Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. These two fantastic games are back and more beautiful than ever. My resolution: To find the hidden copy of OXM in the game! I had to design it specifically for Konami to include in the game, so I’m gonna do my best to see its virtual counterpart as Snake.

To finish two games for each new game I buy. I tend to stock up on games during sales and what not and then to never finish them, or finish only one or two. From now on that needs to change. No more game hoarding.

That's a pretty good idea, severus! I might have to employ that same tactic when buying games -- my collection's been insane lately.
