Rock Band Download Low-Down: Week 7
Each week we’ll run out onto our website stage like roadies and review the latest Rock Band Downloadable Content. Check back after the holidays for the next update!
*NOTE: Each of the songs in this week’s selection costs 160 Microsoft Points ($2). They are only sold separately.

"Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
WHAT ROCKS: Guitar, guitar, guitar. Blow into your left hand to warm it up, because your digits will be constantly dancing throughout this Skynyrd master track. Though there aren't any difficult HO/PO runs, you will be doing a lot of hand shifting. Lose your concentration for just a second and you're doomed...and we mean this in a good way. Both guitar and bass are speedy, steady fun, though drums are ludicrously easy (so step up to Hard or Expert if you don't already live there). Vocals are decent if uninspiring.
WHAT SUCKS: Look what you've done to us, Harmonix! We actually expect our Southern Rock tracks to melt our fingertips, so we admit we were a little disappointed that "Gimme Three Steps" didn't. Don't get us wrong — this track is no walk in the park — but it's damn close to one on drums and vocals.
FINAL VERDICT: Bring your lunch pail, because you'll need to put in a good workman-like effort in order to get through this finger-flexing track. It isn't the endgame-like opus that fellow Southern Rocker "Green Grass and High Tides" is, but that only means it's fun and involving without being quite as challenging.

"Hard to Handle" as made famous by The Black Crowes
WHAT ROCKS: You might not think you know this one, but we're pretty sure you'll recognize it once you hear it. Though it is a cover, it's a rather good one, with the singer in your virtual band having arguably the best time. Guitar and drums are both good but not great, while bass falls in line with the guitar part in terms of fun factor.
WHAT SUCKS: Our resident microphone fiend (Fran) noted that while she enjoyed the vocals, you might feel "dumb" singing them because some of the words are "silly." Your mileage may vary.
FINAL VERDICT: This is The Black Crowes' biggest hit, and it should go over well with just about any band members you bring in. It's definitely a good tune worth a download, though it won't knock your socks off.

"Limelight" as made famous by Rush
WHAT ROCKS: Guitar and bass fall into the medium difficulty range, and this classic Rush riff is so fun to play you're likely to be fighting over the axes. It's immensely more fun on these instruments than the already-solid "Tom Sawyer" that ships on the disc. Drums on hard difficulty are also a treat for those who brave the hard or expert versions of the song, as they feature tricky bass pedal hits and unpredictable sections.
WHAT SUCKS: This one's a cover, and you'll know it the moment the Geddy Lee imposter begins crooning. The vocalist here is not particularly good at mimicking Lee, a point immediately made by our resident Rush fanatic, Corey. Also, drums on medium or easy skill don't offer near the challenge or rush (heh) that playing on hard or expert does.
FINAL VERDICT: Your four-piece band is sure to light up anytime this track comes up in Band World Tour play. It's a treat for everybody, and is the overall standout this week (though the trio of tunes is not available as a pack).

This is one of the only weeks when i bought all three songs, all three are solid all around, Gimme Three Steps was kind of easy on the drums, but its fun to play Hard To Handle was the easiest overall, but Limelight is by far the best song in this pack

Gimme Three steps was a blast to play/sing to... but I wish they would get Freebird! Hard to Handle was fun too, but the cover didn't sound that good IMHO. I hope they keep it up with the mix of popular/obscure and classic rock/modern.

I'd never heard of Rush until I looked it up on seeqpod. Therefore, I like the cover singer.

I used to do Hard to Handle in my little backyard band. I got that rush again here. If you ever liked the track, it's worth owning in RB, I think.
