Classic Rock Pack
WHAT ROCKS: After a fun turn in Guitar Hero II, it's great to now have the master track of "Message in a Bottle" for Rock Band. It's steady fun on guitar and a rousing challenge on drums. Lynyrd Skynyrd's master cut of "Simple Man" is spectacular on vocals, while "Call Me" by Blondie is highly unique on both drums and guitar.
WHAT SUCKS: The bass line on Blondie — even on Expert difficulty — couldn't possibly be more boring. (It's mind-numbingly simple; on the flip side, if you need a song to get your 100% upstrum bass Achievement on, this might be it.) And Skynyrd's "Simple Man" is a fitting title, as guitar, bass, and drums are all incredibly basic and not particularly inspiring. As a Skynyrd song, you expect it to build up to something epic, but it never goes anywhere: you simply repeat the same sections several times.
FINAL VERDICT: We certainly can't say no to another Police song, but as a pack, this one is iffy due to the limited strengths of the other two tracks. We definitely recommend "Message in a Bottle" as an individual cut, though.

"Saints of Los Angeles" by Mötley Crüe
WHAT ROCKS: Talk about a home run! In debuting their new single in Rock Band, the Crüe's new tune is not only catchy on its own, but it's perfect for the game, too. The guitar riff hooks you instantly and makes fun but not overly painful use of hammer-ons, the bass is solid (and it's got an opening bass solo!), drums are nearly as catchy as the guitar, and the vocals are party-worthy. It's an excellent way to get you interested in their new album of the same name, due out June 17.
WHAT SUCKS: Apparently, the special one-dollar price tag is a limited-time deal. Grab it now.
FINAL VERDICT: Metallica is also planning to debut the new single off of their new album (allegedly due in September) in Rock Band. We can only hope it's as perfect a match as this.

Saint's Of Los Angeles is great. My wife is a huge Motley Crue fan and when she heard me playing it for the first time she instantly recognized their style and gave me an audience. Usually I just get dirty looks for playing to loud. Call Me actually coxed her into giving me a lead singer and I enjoy playing the lead guitar to that song. While Simple Man was probably too simple it is still a great song and it's a nice change-up to cool down with after rocking out to a busy music set. I love they Police, but I'm just not a big fan of their DLC for Rock Band. SOS is a great song and its done well, but it will not be a frequent selection for me. All in all this was a good release week for Rock Band. It's always a good thing when I can get my wife interested in gaming.

I'm not even a fan of Motley Crue...but this is one of the best songs IN THE GAME, especially for expert drummers...call me is a nice jazzy change of pace for drums too, but I'd only get that one if you are a fan of the song...skynard is lame, and lyrics in that song are so condescending it makes me sick...and i can't bring myself to buy a song I've been playing for years on guitar hero II, so I won't be getting that one...

Simple Man is epic, it does not need to build to something. Is Skynrd man!
