Boston Pack 01
WHAT ROCKS: Where do we begin? The guitar on "More Than A Feeling" has one of the most classic riffs in guitar history, and it's utterly rewarding in the game. "Hitch a Ride" features a deceptively challenging bass line -- but in a surprise-and-delight kind of way. The vocals on "Something About You" will test your lung capacity. The lyrics and music of "Rock and Roll Band" are fittingly appropriate for the game. "Peace of Mind" is steady and satisfying on drums. And "Smokin'" is a song that everybody knows (whether they realize it or not), and it's also sort of the "final boss" of the pack. It's by far the hardest compared to the others -- particularly on guitar -- but it's a great song to help each other get through. Be ready for the Hammond B3 organ solo, lead guitarist.
WHAT SUCKS: The last third or so of "Smokin'" is rather repetitive on drums. That, and why the hell couldn't they have also included "Let Me Take You Home Tonight"? Since "Foreplay/Long Time" is already in the game, it means that they could've had Boston's entire self-titled debut album! Is there some kind of deal in place with The Who guaranteeing that Who's Next will be the first full album in the game?
FINAL VERDICT: This sextet rivals the recent Grateful Dead Pack and the Metallica Pack as the cream of the crop of Rock Band downloads. It's fun for all band members without being painfully difficult, yet it's also no walk in the park either.

Unless you're a big fan of Boston, I would only reccomend Smokin', and maybe Peace of Mind...the rest are too simple, and frankly...too Boston for competitive players with good taste in music...:P

I think the point is that he only played organ while the whole band was plying the song at once and that the song was recorded as a single track (?). That would mean that they didn't have separate recordings of the instruments which is needed in order to create a master track for the game. I guess they could have done a cover, but that may have been wierd? Thanks for the shout out on the podcast!

Great post Ark, thanks for sharing that. Though I will say that, as noted in the review, you do play organ on "Truckin'"...so bring on the "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" anyway! :-) -- Ryan McCaffrey Senior Editor Official Xbox Magazine

Harmonix talked about why "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" is not there in their blog about the dlc (http://www.rockband.com/blog): MYTH: Being a control freak, Tom Scholz played just about everything on the album. FACT: We can’t vouch for the control-freak part but yes, just about all the guitars, basses and keyboards on the album are his. And those walls of harmonies are pretty much all Brad Delp. Having recorded and re-recorded the album a few times before Boston was signed, Scholz made most of the record at his home in Watertown, while the rest of the band worked on vocals and overdubs in LA. One exception, though: The album’s closing track, “Let Me Take You Home Tonight,†was recorded at a separate session and features the whole band; Scholz only played organ on that one. That’s why it’s not here.

As soon as I saw this DLC I screamed YES! and dled it immediatley because I thought I would finally have the complete first album. Once I started to play the tunes I realized that my favorite "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" was omitted for some reason. Can someone at OXM check with Harmonix to see if that song will be released at a later date? BTW the drums are great with the guitars on Expert on some really give me a workout.

I've found this to be the best song pack to be realeased on XBLM so far. Give us more of this stuff EA/Harmonix! P.S. when will we see Zeppelin, Hendrix, AC/DC, and Van Halen?

No Amanda? That's their second best song! But Peace of Mind is also amazing, as well as More Than A Feeling.

I downloaded this right away. Got most of my favorite Boston songs. They really weren't that challenging to get through but there are definitely some parts that you will have to practice. My guess though is they'll probably release six more Boston songs as another track pack and then sell it as a full album too and screw me.

Damn Harmonix is good. These six packs are making up for the lack of albums for me at least. Rock On!
