Oasis Pack
WHAT ROCKS: This week's triple-play from '90s ballad rockers Oasis joins the David Bowie Pack in Rock Band's "mellow-out" section. After coming down off of a Metallica-fueled adrenaline high, kick back with the Gallagher Bros. and the following tunes: "Live Forever," "Don't Look Back in Anger," and "Wonderwall." The change of pace is quite refreshing, particularly playing acoustic guitar on "Wonderwall." It's a completely different guitar experience from the rest of Rock Band. You'll do some heavy strumming, but not in the crappy 30 Seconds to Mars "Attack" sense. Meanwhile, hard or expert drums are fantastic on "Wonderwall," while vocals on the very same song are among the most friendly in the game -- that is, anyone can sing them, everybody knows them, and they're a lot of fun to belt out.
WHAT SUCKS: Drums are rather easy overall on all three tracks. If you're not pounding on hard or expert, you're likely to be pretty bored. Bass is also a bit tame, while we recognize that the change-of-pace acoustic guitar on "Wonderwall" will probably put off as many folks as it turns on (we're in the latter camp).
FINAL VERDICT: On all three tracks, our virtual band members all agreed that the tunes all "flowed" well and it really felt like we were playing a song together. And the three songs chosen were solid picks; we're glad Harmonix didn't opt for the ridiculously overplayed "Champagne Supernova."

Oasis is one of the best rock and roll bands of all time, definitely the best of the past 15 years. These are absolutely classic songs, while simple, the lyrics are some of the best Noel Gallagher ever wrote. And I agree, the only time I'd want Champagne Supernova would be the 1996 live version, which has a four or five minute solo in it that's fantastic. Now, give me The Stone Roses!

These songs are all great and a welcome change of musical pace. Y'all complainers need to quit whining because you don't get crunchy death metal every week. Some people like having variety in their music. I like the Metallica pack too but I'd get bored if that's the only kind of rock they released. If you want heavy stuff, go complain in the Guitar Hero forums. Besides, your not going to get a lot of girls wanting to play the heavy stuff. Just sayin. :-)

I welcome Oasis with open arms. Not a huge fan, but one of the reasons Rock Band kicks so much ass is its breadth of genres. There's more to guitars than metal. Now get me some Tom Petty!

At least with Oasis I don't feel like slitting my wrists to oblivion.

If they're going to put acoustic songs in RB then they should put in the only good acoustic band Tenacious D
