Report: Next Xbox chipset in production, will release fall 2013

Multiple reports today have stated that the chipset for the Xbox 360's successor has been in production since the end of last year. The biggest report yet has just hit, with IGN claiming the system will launch in the Fall of 2013.
Earlier reports in the day came from Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, both of whom stated the "Oban" chipset has started production under the watchful eyes of IBM and Global Foundries. IGN has provided further specs, noting the GPU will be based on an upgraded version of AMD's 6000 series. IGN further states that the processors on the next Xbox will be six times as powerful as the Xbox 360's, and 20 percent more powerful than the Wii U. While the reported production of the GPU won't commence until the end of the year, IGN states that development kits will make their way to Xbox partners in August.
What do you think of the latest Xbox successor rumors? Are you impressed by the potential specs?

I'm thinking it should have the Watson computer on Jeopardy's innards."Xbox, what is pi divided by the square root of the speed of light?" that would be fun. And it should have a massive hard drive. Please no more of this incremental hard drive increase garbage.

Sounds good! If they can get the software right for the console as well as having the option to download a game day 1 instead of buying the physical disc for less money, then I am ready for the new Xbox. If instead of buying the game at the store for $60, I could buy it online for $30, then I'm on board. I mean, come on! It's saving both the customer and the developer money by cutting out all of those middlemen and they can afford it in the long run since no one will be able to sell the game used and everyone will have to buy the game new. If someone doesn't have internet, then bring your 16GB+ USB stick (or maybe even your whole hard drive) and download it to your media storage right there at the store. Then again, I doubt it'll be anything that radical. Either way, I say, bring it on!

As long as it launches in matte black, is disk based, and has a built in power supply; I do not care what is inside. I did not buy a Xbox until they had a matte black option. The very moment I found out the 4GB Xbox Slim was matte I went to the store to get one. I am a Plastic 'racist'. I do not care what it is, if it is not matte black, I do not want one.

Always wanted them to do this in replace of the slim model but I hope they also make it so it doesn't stand up ever! But they on the right track as far as the way the console idea in the above picture looks like! But they better not make the controllers look like that! I like they way they are now no need for a change!!!!! Also I hope the world doesn't end on 12-21-12 cause all of this would of been a waste of time! Just make it affordable thats all I have to say!!!!!!!!!

Very interesting... I hope they don't choose a controller design like the imaginary caricature above though, XD.

only 20% more powerful than the Wii-U??? I thought the Wii-U was supposed to finally catch Nintendo up to THIS gen's consoles. 6x more powerful than the 360 is a good sign though. I hope it has the legs to last until 2020. The real thing that is going to keep it going are the games though. We need more exclusives for hardcore gamers, not just more Kinect titles.
