Remedy says Alan Wake's XBLA game is not Alan Wake 2

Even though there is a new Alan Wake video game coming out, don’t mistake it for a sequel. That’s what Geoff Keighley did in an interview on Major Nelson's podcast. During the one-on-one with the Xbox ambassador, Keighley said, "I mean, it effectively is, I think, Alan Wake 2 when you really look at it and look what they're doing with that game.” However, according to Remedy’s Mikko Rautalahti, Geoff is just a little to excited about the prospects this Alan Wake game.
CVG pointed out a forum response from the Remedy writer, where he shuts down the sequel idea. “I think that since he invokes the "Alan Wake 2" name, I should reiterate what we've said all along: this new game is not Alan Wake 2,” said Rautalahti. “If we intended it to be that, we'd have named it that.” A rather matter-of-fact statement, but one Remedy clearly intends to stand by. It’s interesting to hear though that Keighley believes the game has enough going on for it that it could be considered a sequel, but obviously, as confident and proud as they are of the product, Remedy just doesn’t see the new Alan Wake that way. On the plus side, the fact that the developers hold the sequel status in such high regard may mean that they're hoping to create another game worthy of the Alan Wake 2 name.
We’ll be getting a better look at the game during the VGAs, where we hope to see what both parties saw in Alan's new adventure.
