Red Dead Game of the Year Edition includes new mode and area
Game of the Year Editions are fast becoming commonplace in the videogame industry, and while they make sense from a publishing perspective (putting a fresh box on store shelves helps to sustain new game sales), many GOTYEs of late (like Borderlands and Gears of War 1 & 2) have bunched together a series of multiplayer DLC add-ons which could potentially overwhelm new players hopping online a year after the rest of the world.
Thankfully, Rockstar Games is mixing the multiplayer packs and new single-player content for the Xbox 360 version of Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition. Sure, all of the multiplayer packs released thus far will be present (including Legends and Killers, Liars and Cheats, Undead Nightmare, and Outlaws to the End), but there's plenty of new content in the single-player campaign that should make the $50 package a worthwhile value. The game will include a new "Hardcore" difficulty to make the Old West an even tougher time to tangle in, as well as the Solomon’s Folly hideout and challenges previously exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
Red Dead Redemption: Game of the Year Edition is due out on October 14, and you can see the entire slate of content on Rockstar's newswire. For those of you who have resisted Redemption thus far, are the additions in this version enough to warrant a purchase?
