Real-Time Strategy Six-Pack (#3): <br>Halo Wars

We certainly couldn’t unleash a real-time strategy game blowout without covering the one in the bunch that, above all others, might get you hooked on the genre. Halo Wars has (by far) the biggest hit potential out of this group not only because of its name, but also because of its already unmatched pedigree. Developer Ensemble Studios is responsible for the critically acclaimed Age of Empires series – a pillar PC franchise that dates back ten years and millions of fans.
Unfortunately, Ensemble is head-down in hardcore development right now and wasn’t ready to blow the lid off of Halo Wars just yet. They were, however, kind enough to send along a couple of new screenshots. Let’s see what we can learn from what we’ve got…

This should be great. Back when playing in big LAN parties with the first Halo, I imagined the rock-paper-scissors balance of the various vehicles (Ghost beats Scorpion, Scorpion beats Warthog, Warthog beats Infantry, that kind of thing) lent itself to an RTS well. Problem is, I have never felt anywhere near in control of an RTS when using a gamepad to steer the action. We'll see about Ensemble's claims of fabulous controls, but in case it remains a barrier for me, I'd love to see some USB mouse and keyboard support. Yeah, I realize it's not going to happen, I'm just putting it out there.

Well, you can see in the first screenshot that some of the units are blue and other are red(ish). So I guess that means there's going to be multiplayer right? But I suppose that's a given.
