What is Microsoft thinking?
caster ASKS:
What is Microsoft thinking by releasing Original Xbox games for download? Sure, it's a good idea and probably the wave of future, but — and this is a big “but” — 1200 Microsoft Points? Sure, no scratched CDs, but most of those games can be bought used for less. Second, with each download taking several GBs each, you’ll need the 120 GB hard drive, and with that costing $130, you gotta be kidding. I’m not a hater, but I’m just concerned with having to take out a second mortgage! I’m just feeling fleeced…like with Rock Band. Great game, but there’s already a million song downloads. I feel like I got half the game, with the other half costing me more Microsoft Points.
OXM SAYS:
We've really gotta...agree. We love the idea of buying Xbox 1 games for download on Marketplace, but at 15 bucks a pop, Microsoft is commiting highway robbery. If you agree too, vote with your wallet. If no one's willing to drop the Points, Microsoft will catch on and lower the price. But on Rock Band, we've gotta call you crazy, caster. The game comes with 50+ songs, and a handful more can be bought. 50 songs for a music game kicks ass, as far as we're concerned, and we're stoked that once we tire of those, we can buy more to keep our investment in Rock Band paying off.

watz up , this is my furst post. Well i think that microsoft should at LEAST charge you the same amount that other gaming stores charge you. And COME ON i am sick and tired of deleting stuff to make room for these XBOX 1 games. At least make it refundable or somethin'.

I have to disagree with you OXM. Rockband is a great game(ive played it with friends) but im just not willing to play $170 bucks for it. i mean common....$170 dollars u kidding! A game so expensive will have hard time finding it self a spot in the market

Turok is goin TU-ROK! Sup everyone? this is my first post. But I have to agree, what you pay for the original xbox games is stupid and pointless with the memory they will take up. And if they're gonna put original xbox games up for download, they should at least put some damn achievements on those suckers...

I never download anything if I can get the actual disc. I have five GameStop stores within 25 minute's drive from my home, and anything I can't find there I can usually get on ebay. What if I down-load a game and then my system dies? Money lost! What if I have more than one XBOX game in my home? (I have three original XBOX systems and one XBOX 360) Previous comments about adding "achievements" seem to add little incentive. Bottom line: I want the disc, case with insert, and the abiility to put it on the shelf when I'm not using it. I want to own something I can hold in my hand!

I think it's absurd, releasing these great games with the digital download method should cost the consumers, us "gamers", less money. (Remember that pie chart from your past issue.) I finished Halo 3 and my friend was like yea reminded me of how Halo started and I said damn I don't think I ever played the beginning of Halo. So I found it new online and shipped to me for 10 bucks, 99 cent shipping, and I'm loving that I 1)have a permanent copy of a great game 2) now completes my Halo collection and 3) that I was able to find it at a great price. After all I'm not made out of money and gas prices are going up in NY.

I agree and disaggree. Agree,in the point that after beating Pyschonauts two times on the Original Xbox, there's really no point to buy it again. Sure, the game was hilarious the first two times, but after beating it two times, the jokes are pretty much recycled, and the game is pretty much an average platformer. Just that in Pyschonauts,we don't have any crappy Nickelodean character running around in levels. Disagree,in the point that I've never bought Halo or Indigo Prophecy. I've only bought Halo 2 and Halo 3. I don't feel like going to the store and spending money on an old game. Not to mention caster,is that adventure classic,Beyond Good & Evil backwards compatible yet? No,and if never becomes compatible,Microsoft may just sell it on Live Marketplace.
Still,I'm disappointed that Microsoft didn't include achievement points with these Xbox games.
Sorry OXM. I just thought that you guys were over praising a platformer. At least Beyond Good & Evil ALWAYS felt fun whenever I went back to play it again.

I'm going to agree with caster on both of his points.
1) It is truly ridiculous that they are charging $15 for an original Xbox games. The only game in that list that is actually still selling for more than $10 is Halo (and possibly Psychonauts).
and...
2) The Rock Band tracks are even more ridiculous. We are paying roughly $175 for this game, and then they turn around and release songs ON THE DAY THE GAME COMES OUT. That's really a slap in the face. They already only had 50 songs (which may sound like a lot, but really, most people will only like about 20-30 of them). Solution? Make people spend another $5 for three songs wooooohooooo!!! Then those songs will get old, and you'll want more. Now, that being said, Microsoft are f***ing geniuses.
These two scams make Halo 3's Heroic Map Pack look as appealing a deal as The Orange Box.

Considering that either way they are the same price, I don't think you are appreciating this. Some people never got to play these classics, and now may not be able to find them for sale. Yet, if Microsoft can crank out one of the best gaming rigs ever made, why can't they make the download smaller? It just doesn't make sense.

I must agree with OXM about Rock Band. 58 songs come with the game, that is a serious amount of rock out time. I would not mind some new clothing or accessories to download, I mean customizing your character is half the fun!
