More Than 100 Friends?

StRaItUpBeAsT28 ASKS:

When is Microsoft going to have an update so you can have more than 100 friends? I’ve had to delete a lot of my friends to make room for new ones.

OXM SAYS:

Effectively, never. The 100 friend limit is based on the amount of network data being swapped around when the list is updated -- which is all the time. Tracking 100 names is (at the moment anyway) all they are willing to do for the sake of the system. More than that and they told us it would affect performance -- too much network data above 100. If bandwidth increases for all users everywhere, then maybe that will change, but right now, Microsoft has no plans to bump it above 100.

COMMENTS:

my only thing is this. 100 friends is a lot of people... why would someone have more than 100 friends, on a game account list, personally i dont see a problem with a cap at all. i play on xboxlive all the time and can't see where it is even possible to collect that many friends gaming. this is just a matter of opinion but i think most of the people in gaming lobbies can be really rude or downright stupid, how can one but rarely find an interesting person on here if people constantly communicate the way most do i game lobbies, looks to me like you guys either A) have way too many real friends that you know on live, or B) read into some pretty dumb annoying individuals to find company (its like a needle in a haystack ) i think i'll stick to party chat ....

So, ppl say that MS has not even tried or tested out the 100 friend limit. Okay, than how do they know that it would slow performance? Uh, testing anyone? Jeah. I am very secure in agreeing and also stating that MS could push the envelope on what they provide to Gold Memberz that do pay and they could UP the stakes for those Silver Memberz az well. PS3 Home iz FREE, but it sucks rotten grapefruits as well. Internet? Anyone feel me here, uh how about a PC? HD Warz are one benifit, and that iz won on both sidez. Sorry, off topic. I have 1 solid complaint to MS about 100 friendz and beyond. Where does our money go? Not serverz from what i see. Why can't MS hold friend info on there side? We do pay for a premium service and only get a "Barred Arena". They could do more and anyone that opposez this iz truely the IDIOT. MS must start thinkin OUTSIDE THE BOX. And if more than 100 friendz iz OUTSIDE THE BOX, than MS, get it together and make it happen somehow, someway. MS can do this and ppl know this. How about this option, have more than 100 friendz, say 500 friendz. BUT, catagorize them by.........uh...... maybe the GENRE they are attached to. Like a freakin IM account, you have fam, friends, and groups. Oh, I see, can't be done. Gotcha, well humanz can't fly either but we sure do get around these days. OUTSIDE OF THE BOX. Nuff Said. TY.

Yeah i get it. Just a bummer :(

WHY DO THE MAGIZINE DEMOS SUCK WHEN I KNOW THEIR ARE BETTER GAMES OUT THERE ARE YOU GUYS HOLDING BACK NO WELL IT FEELS LIKE IT? OR U JUST DONT CARE? THE LAST TWO MAGAZINE DEMOS SUCKED PUT BETTER ONES. GREAT MAGAZINE THO COULD BE BETTER TOO

How many of the people who commented here know how much bandwidth they have? How many knows what bandwidth means whatsoever? Sorry to say guys, but looks like very few.

Guys, every internet connection, included yours, has a maximum amount of data it can transfer, which is indicated in Kb/s ( kilobits of data/second).

Average internet connections range between 2 - 5 megas, which means 230Kb/s - 600Kb/s.

Obviously, to update a friends list in real time, there must be a continuos movement of data.

The 100 friends limit is there to prevent people from having 300 friends and then wandering why they have huge lag when playing online and extremely slow downloads.

It's about your internet connections, not microsoft.

SEE THE THING IS ALSO THEY HAVE ALL THIS TECHNOLIGY THAT IF THEY WANTED TO COME UP WITH SOMETHIN NEW THEY REALLY COULD MAKE IT MORETHAN A 100 FRIENDS ON UR LIST.DONT GET ME WRONG IM A HUGE MICROSOFT/XBOX FAN BUT THERE IS MORE THEY COULD ACTUALLY DO FOR THE CONSOLE AND FOR THE GAMERS PLAYIN IT.. IM STILL WONDERING IF THEY ARE GUNNA COMPETE SOMETIME WITH THE PS3 FREE ONLINE GAMIN IF WE GOTTA PAY $60 PLUS TO GAME ONLINE GIVE US SOMETHIN WE CAN USE THAT THE PS3 CANT OFFER.. I KNO ALOT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE SWITCHIN CONSOLES CUZ THEY THINK THAT PS3 IS A BETTER BARGAIN.. MICROSOFT CAN DO SO MUCH MORE AND BETTER WIT THE CONSOLE I JUS DONT THINK THEY WANT TO...

What are you guys talking about, Microsoft cannot mannage it too much higher than 100 friends, if you understood anything about networking (which obviously you dont). You would be saying that.

"they say that if doing so it would slow ur performance but have they even tried to see if its true or not? no they have not"

How do you know that they haven't tested it? Do you work with Microsoft? Are you on the "inside"? They may have tested it but not told anyone that they have. Hell, Microsoft is so secretive about their info on stuff it's crazy sometimes.

you know i think its funny they say they cant do it because of performance. i meen think about this for a moment...at $49.95 for a 1 year subcription add that up by maybe 1 million or more and thats alot of money not to mention we are talking about a company that is a top dog in the software industry. i think its a load of crap lol they can do so much more for the system but they always trying to play it safe, they did not play it safe when the xbox launched and it ended up with the red ring system failure issue why not try making people have more than 100 friends. they say that if doing so it would slow ur performance but have they even tried to see if its true or not? no they have not, practice makes perfection and if we make an error we should learn from it so go ahead microsoft try it before you come to a conclusion...

Understandable

huh???
