There was a time when the possibility of Psychonauts 2 ever happening was a pipe dream. That time apparently ended yesterday when Markus “Notch” Persson, creator of Minecraft, tweeted to Tim Schafer: “Let’s make Psychonauts 2 happen.” What at first seemed like nothing more than one game developer sparking a conversation with another quickly turned into so much more. Especially after Notch said, “Also, I’m serious.”

Eurogamer reached out to Double Fine for a comment, and a spokesperson for the company did confirm that talks were indeed happening beyond Twitter. "Tim and Markus are talking. Who knows what might happen?" the spokesperson replied. While it’s not an outright confirmation that Psychonauts 2 has been rushed into development, it’s certainly one more step closer than it was just a mere day ago. Will the cult following Tim Schafer and Double Fine have coupled with that of Minecraft’s Persson and his funding make Psychonauts 2 happen? Only time will tell. But we’ve officially got our fingers crossed that this does happen. And soon.
