OXM Roundtable: Staff picks for the holiday break

With a four-day Thanksgiving break upon us, the OXM staff takes a breather from the stuffing and family gatherings to tackle what games (both blockbuster and secret picks) and movies we’re hoping to make a dent in during the long weekend. What’re YOU playing over the break? Sound off in our comments or on our Facebook page!
Francesca Reyes (editor-in-chief)
What game are you dead set on making headway with over the break?
Too many to count, but it breaks down into two categories for me: co-op and singleplayer. On the co-op side, gotta hook up for some Halo: CE Anniversary run-throughs, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, and Modern Warfare 3 Spec-Ops action. On the singleplayer, I’m still too intimidated by the time-sink that is Skyrim, so gonna polish off Batman: Arkham City and Rayman Origins. That doesn’t even count the other non-Xbox stuff like Uncharted 3 on PS3 and Ghost Trick on DS.
What game are you ashamed to admit you’ll be playing in tandem?:
Let’s face it. I’m nothing if not a long string of guilty pleasures when it comes to gaming. Aside from turning my nieces into makeshift gold farmers for Gamerscore with Kinect games during holiday get-togethers (I’m so very close to 60K, I can taste it), I’m totally down to try some Cabela’s Shadows of Katmai and Puss in Boots on Kinect “for work.” Seriously, I can’t be all frowny-faced serious “big-time” gaming all the time, folks. Gotta sneak in my junk food, popcorn movie-watching, trashy paperback novel page-turning gaming among all that high-minded, required-reading entertainment, too.
What movie is on your list to watch over the break?
A string of them are sitting on my list. Think I’m gonna have to back-to-back a few of them! Summer Wars (watched the director’s previous movie, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, recently and adored it), Melancholia, The Muppets Movie, The Descendants…and I’m gonna start on my annual, holiday-timed Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki marathon too! Four days — not nearly long enough!

What game are you dead set on making headway with over the break?
Skyrim. I've played lots already, but considering it's basically a bottomless pit of awesome, I want to keep exploring.
What game are you ashamed to admit you’ll be playing in tandem?
X-Men: Destiny. Daddy needs some more Gamerscore, and I still have plenty left to milk from this one. Besides, it's a comic-book game, so at least I'll be sating my points lust AND my superhero fandom in one swoop.
What movie is on your list to watch over the break?
Stake Land. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic anything, and when it also has vampires, that's a must-view.

What game are you dead set on making headway with over the break?
I’ve simply got to explore more of Skyrim. I’m a measly nine hours in, and I’m only level 10 or so. If my family felt like watching football and ignoring me for the entire holiday weekend and left me to roam the snowy landscapes of the latest Elder Scrolls title, I can’t say I would be upset. (Hint, hint, family)
What game are you ashamed to admit you’ll be playing in tandem?
I’ll just come right out with it: I’m hoping to check out Ubisoft’s new Kinect-enabled The Price is Right: The Decades at some point when no one (and I mean absolutely nobody) is looking. Back when 1 vs. 100 was out, I always dreamed of a massively multiplayer “live” version of PIR, but with that dream dead, this looks like the next best thing. Give me Plinko and Cliffhanger and I’ll be as happy as a college student picked to be on Contestant’s Row.
What movie is on your list to watch over the break?
If my wife and I can find a babysitter and sneak away to see The Muppets this weekend, we will be very happy people.

Dave Cordon. You want to watch twilight?????????? Lol, I admit I USED to like it. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but right after the movie I suggest you go home and play Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mortal Kombat (2011), or any other game. Trust me it works.

I'll be spending most of my gaming time playing through Saints Row The Third. I'll try to tackle some of the Anniversary maps for Halo: Reach as well.

I am planning on finishing Assassin's Creed Revelations for the weekend. Don't feel guilty about playing anything! And I guess I want to watch Planet of the Apes whenever I can rent that.

What game are you dead set on making headway with over the break?I've been playing Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (yeah, I know. I'm a little behind. But who can really keep up with all of the great games that have been coming out). I'd like to make some more progress with that game, but I was just given a copy of the new Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword with the fancy new gold Wiimote so Assassin's Creed might just have to wait. What game are you ashamed to admit you’ll be playing in tandem? It has become a guilty pleasure ofmine but I've just discovered that I love the Pokemon games after picking up Pokemon: White and investing 40 plus hours into it. So I'll also be playing, besides the new Zelda and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the very first Pokemon game for the Gameboy just for giggles. What movie is on your list to watch over the break? With two very small children at home getting out to the movie theater has not been in the cards for a long time, but I have just gotten Your Highness from Netflix so hopefully I'll get to watch that at some point.
