Minecraft 360 passes 5 million copies sold

Indie gaming success story Minecraft has surpassed over 5 million copies sold on Xbox 360, according to a recent announcement made by Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition developer 4J Studios (via Twitter). In addition, on December 24th alone, Minecraft sold over 450,000 copies across all platforms, according to original Minecraft creator Notch (also via Twitter).
On Xbox 360, as far as OXM knows, Minecraft has been one of the few XBLA titles to never go on sale. So just how much revenue has Minecraft 360 generated for 4J Studios and Notch? Five million copies sold at the default price of $20 (1600 MSP) totals up to about $100 million. The 360 version of Minecraft launched in May 2012, so all that revenue was generated in less than a year.
