Megamind: Ultimate Showdown review

We’ve reached the point in the 360’s lifecycle where even movie tie-ins have decent graphics. Too bad that’s the only part of Megamind: Ultimate Showdown that doesn’t totally suck.
Like many licensed cash-ins before it, the game throws you into situations not seen in the source material and forces you to fight enemies you’ve never heard of…with voice actors you wish you’d never heard.
That’d be okay if these bad guys and situations entertained, but every level has you shooting your way through extremely repetitive city streets, rooftops, and sewers, broken up by the occasional awful platforming section. You collect power-up orbs to upgrade your woefully tiny arsenal, but even maxed out, the weapons feel way too similar.
Crates need moving and switches need activating, but that’s not the variety we’d hoped for. And we can’t figure out why the mini-games you unlock, like a nifty Rampage clone, weren’t worked into the main story to break up the monotony. As separate bits, they feel tacked-on and pointless — which, unfortunately, pretty much sums up the game
On Xbox 360
+ No positives.
- Painfully repetitive level design and gameplay.
- Insipid voice-acting that’s nowhere near as good as the vocal talent in the actual film.
- You fart to double jump. Seriously.
? If the entire OXM community focuses its collective mental energy, can we make this game disappear?
