Homemade Halo — Show Us Your Stuff!
How do you make a good game better? You tell us! In every issue we run Homemade Halo, a place for readers and fans to show off what they've created in Halo 3 — levels, gametypes, you name it. And we want to see what you've created, too. Here's a sample of what we're looking for. Just follow the template you see below and fill in your own information, then make sure you follow the instructions at the bottom. Thanks, and good luck!

LET’S PLAY…VALHALLA GULCH
WHAT IT IS: A Valhalla-based remake of the greatest Capture the Flag map in the history of the world: Blood Gulch. Since Bungie hasn’t given it to us in Halo 3 (yet), we decided it was high time to build it ourselves.
HOW TO MAKE IT: Replace the Wraiths with Scorpions, one of the Mongoose vehicles with a Ghost, and the Spartan Laser in the middle of the map with a trip mine. (We’ve also placed a rocket launcher by the radio tower on the structure side of the level.) Oh, and be sure to modify the gametype to “CTF Classic,” meaning simply that the flags must be at home to score. We’ve made a number of other little tweaks, too, which you can see if you download it from the Halo 3 file share of gamertag Ryan OXM.
WHY IT’S COOL: The longer we spent on this hybrid approximation, the more we came to realize just how similar Valhalla is, at its core, to Blood Gulch. And the fun translates well to Halo 3’s tree-lined canyon, as Ghosts make for speedy travel and excellent battle fodder, and the Scorpions are better balanced in Halo 3 than they were in the original Halo, making them less of an über-weapon. Enjoy our ode to the very best of old-school Halo while we wait for (hopefully) the real thing from Bungie via downloadable content.
If you’ve got a cool Forge map or gametype to share, let us know and we’ll feature it in an upcoming issue. Email us at letters@officialxboxmagazine.com with the subject line “Homemade Halo.” Be sure to include the full information and brief explanations seen above — and don’t forget to tell us which gamertag’s file share we should download it from.
