Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto V will launch for Xbox 360 in Spring 2013, with pre-orders opening on November 5. GTAV will be developed by series creators Rockstar North and take place in a reimagined version of Southern California. The game centers on the Los Santos area previously seen in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but Rockstar promises that GTAV will also include terrain “miles beyond – from the tops of the mountains to the depths of the ocean.”
The Grand Theft Auto series is one of the most popular game franchises of all time, and GTAV's release has been anticipated for years. The last major entry in the GTA series, Grand Theft Auto IV, launched five years ago and shipped over 22 million units. The Grand Theft Auto series as a whole has shipped over 114 million units since its launch in 1997.
