The Games That Never Were <br> (Day 1): Frame City Killer
With the year drawing to a close and the Xbox 360 already two years old, we've seen a lot of high-profile titles hit the cutting room floor before ever seeing the light of day. And the original Xbox had a couple of big-name titles never make it out of the game development birth canal either. So we thought it'd be fun to spend the next seven days taking a look back at seven of the most memorable Xbox games that never were. First you'll see our original, undoctored previews. Below that will follow our 2007 post-mortem. Enjoy!

FRAME CITY KILLER - ORIGINAL OXM PREVIEW (AUG. 2005 ISSUE):
Namco hits 360 with its own original take on the hitman genre with Frame City Killer -- a title boasting the Unreal Engine 3 as its backbone for next-generation-style graphics. As an assassin named Crow, you'll shoot and sneak your way through a futuristic world, targeting the head of a corporation of the worst possible hybrids -- terrorism and drugs! He probably also eats kittens. So, it's your job as Crow to find and eliminate him -- but things will most likely go horribly wrong...in a way that will have you hired on to execute various hits while driving, shooting, and puzzling your way to the end goal. For a company that's known for its attention to graphics (see Tekken, Soulcalibur, etc.) and gameplay (Ridge Racer series), we're very interested to follow Namco down this very different, very intriguing new path.

THE 2007 OXM RETROSPECTIVE:
Oh boy. This one probably died for the greater good. Its graphics were so gag-inducing that Epic probably would've insisted that the Unreal Engine name be nowhere on the box, in the game, or in the manual, while the gameplay formula was, looking back on it, never really that appealing.

This game looks like crap (period). I didn't even have to read the review to know it was crap. It was a good move to can it. PS. Daze, cool it with your gamercard image. Way to big.

Daze, Please remove the gamercard image in your signature or use the smaller, more standard square one that others on the site use. The one you have now is far too large; it actually bleeds out of the column and (in a way) "breaks" the site. Thanks! Ryan McCaffrey Senior Editor Official Xbox Magazine

This game never did impress me. All the videos for it always looked pretty bad. Specially when somebody would get shot or blown up they would look funny as hell. I am glad this got canned because it would have most likely been a big flop.![]()

They need to pick up where they left off. Look how far 360 and developement for it has come since then. I think if it came out now it would be so much better. And with the history behind it, I'm sure it'll sell.

I know that it's only going to keep making me sad to see the rest of the list, but this was agame that was looking so cool. Gamers don't sleep. We just take naps between levels. Sir Snootch
