The future of TV begins this week on Xbox 360… kind of

Oh how we are looking forward to the new dashboard update for our Xbox 360s. There’s a huge amount of new features and streaming options coming that we just can’t wait to make use of.
Unfortunately, some of the new streaming options won’t be available right off the bat, and might not even be available until well into the new year. Major Nelson just released a schedule of when to expect certain services to arrive, and we were a little let down by the fact that almost all of the new video options coming to the 360 won’t be available for at least a month.
While ESPN, Hulu, and Netflix have been great so far, we were really hoping that the FiOS and XFinity apps would be included this week. They’re not, and more importantly, while FiOS will still be coming by the end of the year, XFinity won’t be part of the Xbox dashboard until 2012. Even more disappointing is that HBO Go won’t be coming until next year either. While we’re not so worried that MLB.TV isn’t arriving until the new season starts, the lack of the cable providers at launch is a bit of a low blow. Turning our 360s into actual media centers that could double as cable boxes was one of the biggest prospects of the new dashboard. Now that many of those features aren’t going to be available right away, we’re pretty disappointed.
Hey, but at least we’ll be able to voice search Bing for YouTube videos. Oh, YouTube is delayed too? Well, at least we’ll be able to voice search Bing for… something.
