Square-Enix has officially released an extended version of a Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns trailer that might look a little bit familiar to you, along with some fresh screens. The trailer was briefly leaked last month, before being quickly pulled. Now, you can watch Lightning explore and battle enemies in the city of Luxerion all you want. Lightning arrives in the city with thirteen days before the apocalypse occurs. Similar to the N64 title The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, the game gives the player a limited amount of time to figure out how to save the world.
The trailer pays off Square-Enix's promise that Lightning Returns would be a more action-oriented game, and shows Lightning platforming her way across the city. Battles loosely resemble their counterparts from the original Final Fantaxy XIII, complete with the use of Lightning's original theme song from that game. The battles appear to be turn-based rather than action-oriented as some fans expected, with an emphasis on controlling Lightning alone. This may be intended to make the game more inviting to fans of RPGs. You can check out the trailer above, and the new screens below.
