Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition coming February 7
Penny-pinchers and "wait-and-see" types rejoice! Bethesda has announced an upcoming "complete" edition of Obsidian's 2010 open-world RPG Fallout: New Vegas, with the February 7 North American release of Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition. For the going price of $49.99 (according to Amazon.com), you'll receive the main game in New Vegas, along with all four of the accompanying story-led DLC game add-ons as well as two of the title's item/weapon/recipe-type downloads in one package.
The four beefy game add-ons consist of —
Dead Money — A trip to the mysterious, long-lost radioactive-tastic world of Sierra Madre ensues. It's a tougher, more action-y take on the Fallout gameplay model, and it's also a bit more on the horror-tinged side. But with new companions and an interesting storyline, it's well worth the trip.
Honest Hearts — We really loved this peek into the lore of New Vegas' warring factions: it gives returning visitors a chance to meet up with some of the characters who've only been whispered about throughout the main storyline. The change of scenery during your visit to deep canyons and river-split plateaus is a welcome departure from the desert of New Vegas, to boot.
Old World Blues — One of the goofier DLC side-stories, Old World Blues offers a more futuristic spin on the New Vegas formula. Humor, plenty of gunplay, and some rather silly voice-overs keep the pace zippy.
Lonesome Road — Because Lonesome Road takes you back to where your entire adventure began, we recommend its journey only to those who've ventured through most — if not all — of the main storyline. It's a bleak peek at the dystopia that stretches past the deserts found in the bulk of New Vegas...and it's enlightening.
In addition to the DLC outlined above, you'll also get the two content packs — Courier's Stash and Gunrunner's Arsenal — which allow you to play dress-up with your character in terms of firearms, armor, crafting recipes (for making equipment and other items at in-game campfires, etc.), and more.
The only thing perhaps missing from the list is what one commenter named John Drinkwater voiced on the announcement landing page at Bethesda's blog: "Hope it has been patched, or it won't be that ultimate." Yeah, us too, John.
