The last time Fable mastermind Peter Molyneux gave us a peek at his adventure-roleplaying sequel, he introduced us to the first of the three “big things” he has planned: your dog. In using the canine companion as your guardian, friend, and even HUD, he wants to make you care about your four-legged sidekick.
Now, he wants us to care about the X button, too. In an effort to give his RPG a “Soul Calibur– level” depth of combat, Molyneux’s second “big thing” ties all of Fable 2’s swordplay to a single button (X). Sounds oxymoronic, eh?
Not exactly. While Molyneux may have been exaggerating a bit (Mr. Molyneux? Exaggerate? Never!), he’s managed to vary the button-mashing a bit with a feature he dubs “crescendo mechanics.” It starts with a simple tap of the X button, which performs a basic slash. Holding it blocks, and holding/ releasing it while pressing a direction on the left stick performs a charged attack. But the real fun comes when you mix these actions at the right rhythm.
Any time you’re in combat, the musical score waxes and wanes with your actions. Time your swipes right and you’ll hear cymbals crashing, punctuating your efforts and indicating that you’re inflicting maximum damage. Molyneux let us try it, and we’ve got to hand it to him: it works. The same musical momentum applies to your Y-button ranged attacks and your B-button magic spells, too. And yes, your dog works into this system as well, attacking the enemy that’s the biggest threat, in tandem with the tunes. So, Mr. Molyneux, we must now ask: what’s behind door number three?

I cant what I allready preorderd it in limited edition. I played the first one and I was a bad***. If its anythang like obliven,mass effect,or the first one itll be sweet. I hope its longer and it will be like the huge open world of obliven. Ill be good the first time and bad the sacond.(sorry I cant spell very good.)

I have been waiting for this game for sooo long. once i played the first one i knew they had to make a second one (the expansion doesn't count) and i've been following it's progress since it's first mention. It kills me that i'll have to wait those extra few day's over here in europe to get it though, which i don't understand, the game is being made in England :(

I really wish they would quit postponing this game more and more. Sure, I want it to be perfect, but why does the best game out there have to take soooo long?! The entire reason I even bought a 360 was to play Fable 2 in all of its glory.

fable 1 was great and fable 2 will be even better, it looks so much bigger and I like how you get a dog. this game will be very fun

This game looks f***ing gorgeous. Can't wait to play, I'm a huge RPG fan, but I don't know about it being better than Oblivion. That's a VERY ballsy statement.
