Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 review
So it’s Dynasty Warriors, which means running around hitting things. It’s Gundam, which means hot robot-on-robot action, rather than Chinese history. And it’s got a “2” on the end, which means it’s a sequel, so it should be better than the last one. Right? Exactly. Gundam 2 isn’t out to surprise you, especially not if you powered through the original. The pace is brisker, the fighting system is deeper, there are more modes, giant robots occasionally stomp about to change things up a little, and the awkward difficulty spikes have been ironed out. Really, it’s the same old story — if you like all things Warriors, buy this with confidence. If you don’t, then don’t. Easy.

On Xbox 360
+ Big robots running around smashing things.
+ Major improvements over the previous game.
- Same old Dynasty Warriors gameplay
? When are they going to finally change this series up a bit?

I'm sort of curious as to how the developers are supposed to "change this series up." If the average enemy had more than half a brain, it might affect the gameplay in any kind of way, ranging from mild to significantly. The never-changing brainless AI seems to have worked over the years, even though it has led to consistently poor reviews by most critics. The melee combat itself is well done, in my opinion (at least for the mobile suits that aren't mass-produced) although if something could be done about the ranged attacks (machine guns, beam cannons, rocket launchers) then I agree, that aspect of the gameplay should be altered to make the ranged attacks somewhat useful. If I recall correctly, the first DW: Gundam game received a 6 or so, and I think it was reviewed by the same person, so I've been wondering why the score this time 'round was lower even though there are "major improvements over the last game" and the only significant fault is that the gameplay is the same as it always is. As one OXM editor said about Halo 3, a 10 in 2007 isn't a 10 in 2009. That was well said, and I suppose that might apply here, too. Anyway I will continue to love this game regardless of the score, LOL.
