Developer shares ideas, hope for cancelled DJ Hero 3

When the music game genre was blowing up big last decade, there were a lot of bad titles and peripherals released. We’re looking at you Rock Revolution.
However, out of all the madness of trying to create the next Guitar Hero or Rock Band, one absolutely brilliant idea broke through: the DJ Hero series. Giving players the chance to scratch their way to dance hall immortality, the unique title put a whole new spin (sorry) on the genre. DJ Hero got a sequel the following year after its release, and then the music genre collapsed in on itself. It was then that Activision scuttled plans for further Guitar Hero and DJ Hero titles, shattering the dreams of millions of wannabe funkmasters.
Though DJ Hero 3 may never actually see the light of day, its developer, FreeStyle Games, still has a few ideas for where they’d like to take the third title should it ever come out. In an interview with Edge magazine (and pointed out by CVG), the developer revealed plans for a new expert mode, where the players could attach two DJ Hero controllers together for an even more intense challenge.
Though the market for music games has all but died out, that’s not the only problem FreeStyle faces in trying to get DJ Hero back into the groove. Creative director Jamie Jackson claims that the real issue holding everything up is how the music is licensed. We can only imagine the exorbitant costs in trying to secure the rights to two or three different songs just for one DJ Hero track.
Though it doesn’t look likely that DJ Hero 3 will be coming out anytime soon, would you return to the turntables if it did?
