Radical Entertainment is partnering with Dark Horse Comics to publish a three-part digital Prototype comic book that bridges the story gap between the original game and Prototype 2, which ships April 24. The comic's three parts will release biweekly after the first part goes on sale on February 15. Prototype 2 follows new infected protagonist Sgt. James Heller, who is using his shapeshifting powers so he can hunt down and kill original Prototype protagonist Alex Mercer.

The comic's first part, “The Anchor,” follows what happened to Alex Mercer after the events of the first game and will be illustrated by Paco Diaz. The second part, “The Survivors,” will be illustrated by Chris Staggs and follows a group of people in New York City who are trying to escape as the Blacklight virus transforms the city into NYZ. The third part, “The Labyrinth,” introduces players to Sgt. James Heller's backstory and will be illustrated by Victor Drujiniu.
