Battlefield 3 sales escalate to 8 million copies

EA wants you to know that Battlefield 3 is continuing to sell. Game Informer was on hand at the Baird Technology Conference in San Francisco, where EA’s CFO Eric Brown revealed the shooter has sold 8 million total copies since its launch over a month ago. Though Battlefield 3 sold 5 million of those copies in its first week of release, the new numbers are proof that the sales haven’t dried up on the Call of Duty competitor. Brown also notified those in attendance that DICE’s FPS has shipped 12 million copies in total since launch. That’s pretty impressive, even when you consider that 10 million of those copies were shipped during the first week of release.
If anything, these new sales numbers reveal that Battlefield 3 certainly has some legs on it. While it might be unfair to compare the numbers of EA’s title to those of Activision’s record-setting Call of Duty, the rivalry between the two titles is hard to ignore. Were Battlefield 3 released at any other time except in competition against Modern Warfare 3, we might be looking at these sales numbers a little differently. They’re certainly impressive; just not as impressive as the highest selling entertainment property of all time.
