Batman: Arkham City shipped 6 million copies worldwide

Since October, Batman: Arkham City has managed to ship 6 million copies worldwide. Warner Bros. reported the distribution stats for last year’s immensely popular sequel in their 2011 financial report. When Arkham City first launched, it had shipped more than 4 million copies, which helped Warner Bros. earn more than $12 billion in revenue from their “Filmed Entertainment” department. Though that same department is home to the very lucrative Harry Potter franchise, and the puzzlingly popular Big Bang Theory, Arkham City’s contribution to that dollar tally is hard to ignore.
Even though Warner still hasn’t released full sales data on the 6 million copies that have been shipped, Batman performed rather strongly at retail. Arkham City was not only the seventh-best selling game of 2011, but also the most requested rental game from Gamefly (as reported by GameSpot). Warner Bros. also gives credit to Mortal Kombat and the Lego franchise for contributing to the 9% increase in revenue from 2010.
