Bastion sequel not a sure thing, says game's developer

In an interview with Eurogamer, Bastion's writer and designer Greg Kasavin makes mention that the game's team at development studio Supergiant Games have "always intended for Bastion to be a stand-alone game…" After the company's recent announcement that their debut title (which released on Steam and XBLA — during 2011's Summer of Arcade promotion) sold in excess of 500,000 copies since its release, the news may be surprising to some fans.
"Our stance around what we want to do in the future hasn't changed in light of Bastion's success," Kasavin told Eurogamer's Fred Dutton. Instead, the team looks at the game's outpouring of support from gamers as the encouragement to spend their resources to continue to "self-fund" original projects and to "get it right."
While a return to Bastion's world of Caelondia isn't out of the question, Kasavin and the Supergiant Games team want to make sure that any follow-up isn't simply "a financially motivated decision, because that's not how Bastion was created in the first place."
It's worth noting that Supergiant Games has called out a few outlets (via Twitter) for stating that the team's next game won't be a Bastion sequel, noting "it's too early to say what's next." It seems at this point that the team doesn't have firm plans on what its next project will be, but they certainly don't want to rule out Bastion 2 as an option. Fair enough.
