Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood: The Da Vinci Disappearance review

Brotherhood’s first two downloadable packs offered free multiplayer content, but The Da Vinci Disappearance is a much more significant package, delivering a decent chunk of single-player action alongside further multiplayer options.

On tap for Ezio are about two hours of missions revolving around the missing painter, wherein you’ll scour Rome for stolen paintings and clues before setting off to reclaim your kidnapped ally. Though this search presents some choice platforming and character interactions — just wait until a childhood rival talks trash about Ezio’s sister — the familiar-feeling missions don’t stand out. And when it finally starts engaging in more of the futuristic alien technobabble that keeps the series interesting, the memory quickly ends without resolution. Saved for the next DLC, perhaps?

Luckily, the multiplayer additions are pretty sharp, with two new modes (free-for-all Assassinate and a VIP-protecting team option, Escort), a fresh map (Alhambra), and four more player models. Da Vinci doesn’t hit consistent highs, but it’s a fresh and fairly priced reason to dive back into Brotherhood months after its debut.

On Xbox 360

+ Solid campaign memory with entertaining moments.

+ Worthwhile multiplayer modes, plus a new map and characters.

- Doesn’t significantly contribute to the series narrative — or not yet, at least.

? Will Brotherhood get any more free DLC, or is it just premium packs from here on out?
