Interpol

WORDS BY: Paul Curthoys

Some games baffle us by merely existing, and yes, Interpol, you are one of those games. A simplistic Where’s Waldo–style puzzler, it imagines that you’re a detective catching crooks…by clicking on static, cluttered images to ferret out a handful of objects from the massive horde of debris scattered everywhere. But instead of giving you gorgeous, high-res images to pore over, Interpol uses muddy, cruddy graphics that wouldn’t tax the processors of a SNES.

And while there’s some pleasant trickery afoot (finding a radio can mean finding the word “radio”), there are way too many dark, unfairly obscured objects that you’d never find without the help of the clue system, which essentially spots you a few objects per level. Hey, we figured out where Waldo is: running in the opposite direction!

On Xbox Live Arcade
3.5
  • New genre for Arcade.
  • Lo-res graphics and cheap tricks spoil what little fun there is to be had.
  • WAY overpriced at $10.
  • Why not go all-out and make this game the right way?
COMMENTS:

darkness imprisoning me
all that I see
absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
that is what this game makes me feel like

i know where waldo is! strapping some c4 to the dev's building.

The ten minutes I played made me want to do things. Boring things. Like take a nap.
