"Why don't I like Fallout 3? I just am not getting into it. I'm about 4 hours in and I'm supposed to be looking for a radio station. I am taking my time, doing some exploring and really trying to enjoy it. While I'm playing though, all I can think about is wanting to play something else."

Go! Go! Break Steady

WORDS BY: David Craddock

Go! Go! Break Steady is a rhythm-puzzle hybrid that has players eliminating rings of colored gems by pressing onscreen buttons to a beat. As songs progress, strings of buttons come from up, down, and all around. With strings appearing from all directions and exploding puzzle pieces filling the screen, tapping the correct buttons becomes overly complex, especially considering one wrong press forces you to restart an entire string.

Still, all rhythm games require focus, and Break Steady is no exception. Seasoned players will enjoy challenging friends to determine break-dance superiority in competitive multiplayer… because if pop culture has taught us anything, it’s that any dispute can be settled with a dance-off. Co-op has each player alternate between pressing buttons and working the puzzle, but doing only one or the other grows dull quickly. Still, if you’re into music and/or puzzle games at all, Break Steady is worth a gander for its single-player and versus throwdowns.

  • Good fun for puzzle and music fans at the same time.
  • We dig the cool cel-shaded graffiti-style art.
  • Screen clogs too often with a mess of colors and icons.
  • A music-puzzle game? Like, whoa...
COMMENTS:
