Elements of Destruction

WORDS BY: Cameron Lewis

Obliterating futuristic forces and corporate landmarks with upgradable lightning, earthquake, and tornado attacks could've made for some stunning natural fury. But you'd never know it from Elements' main campaign, which spans 90 tepid minutes. Objectives are spread across plain environments like grassy Canadian fields and snowy Swiss mountains, but the high-tech defenses that absorb particular attacks are used so sparingly that most of the game is simply spent raining monotonous devastation upon poorly coordinated resistance on your way to three underwhelming boss battles. You can't even automatically continue from one unremarkable mission to the next in online co-op.

Younger children might appreciate Elements' mild, gore-free pyrotechnics, but even they'll forget about this overpriced ($10), disposable package almost immediately.

On Xbox Live Arcade
4.0
  • Destruction in the palm of your hand.
  • Monotonous and simple.
  • Bad online party system.
  • Can anybody sit through the whole 90 minutes?
COMMENTS:

i think this game is supposed to get like 6 or something
i played it and i loved it

I think a few important bits of info were missing from the review. There are three single player modes (Normal, Free-For-All, and Survival), and much more than 90 minutes of gameplay. There is also split screen multiplayer both versus and co-op in which you actually do progress mission to mission in multiplayer.

I'm liking the game. It's not epic but for $10 it's a good time. I pay more than that for 90 minutes at a movie.

I think the other review sites got it right with 7.9 and 7.8. This review is way off base in my opinion.

The dev team worked really hard on the game. Please don't let our hard work go to waste, give the demo a try and make your own opinion.

Sounds like you gave it a 4.0 BECAUSE it is a Teen rated XBLA game instead of giving it a rating based on that. I already knew this game wasn't Halo but enjoyed it anyway. Great review man...

Well I guess I'll still try it. This looked like it might have been really fun. Oh well.
