 THE COMING OF DOOM

IGN.com reports that the next Doom game was officially annouced by id CEO Todd Hollenshead at QuakeCon. Very little about the game was revealed beside the fact that it would run at an 30 frames per second. Despite id's large-scale development of Rage, Doom's development would not be slowed and delayed as they're developing both games at the same time.  Also, apparently the PC version of Doom is expected to look considerably better than its console counterparts.

Shacknews.com also shoots a similar story our way, but with the added news that Doom 4 will NOT be called Doom 4. Instead, the game might ship with a subtitle en lieu of the number.

VERDICT: It doesn't really matter what the name of the game is as long as we don't have to wait too long to get our hands on it!

PUTTING THE 'I' IN A.I.

Gamespot.com features a very interesting read about Bungie's artificial intelligence developments for the next Halo game. The developers will attempt to allievate the frustrations of friendly A.I. getting in the way, behaving oddly, and generally just getting themsevles needlessly killed. The idea is an A.I. that reacts in different ways based on how you play the game. Whether that is controlled by miles of dense, complicated coding or a player-controlled conversation system, is still up for debate.

VERDICT: The whole thing is rather fascinating and we can't wait to see the finished product. It will be nice to have NPCs who actually do what you need them to do for once. So much work is always done on improving enemy A.I. that it's nice to see things the other way around this time!

NEXT-GENERATION TALKS HEAT UP

If anybody is waiting for the next-generation of consoles to hit stores within the next year or two, you might be waiting longer than you think. Gamespot.com reports that the next-generation might not start until 2012 or even 2018.

While Nintendo and Sony are already looking toward the future, THQ CEO Brian Farrell thinks the systems aren't needed yet.

"Those engines have a lot of steam left in them. We think it could be seven or eight years before new machines start to roll out," Farrell said.

VERDICT: The last generation flew by surprisingly fast and we don't think consumers are quite ready for yet another one just yet. Consoles are expensive and people aren't going to want to buy new ones every five years. Plus, a system's best games are released years after the console comes out as developers learn how to work better with the technology.

COMMENTS:

Cool the next Doom. If they can take Doom 3 and put flashlights on the guns the game will be perfect.

im just looking forward to the virtual reality. it might be a reality in 4-8 years

I honestly hope that Gamespot is right. I don't feel like paying for another system. It's downright pointless. I'm having enough fun with my Xbox 360. Why should I dish out $500 for a 'new' Xbox? How much better can graphics look?

I'm pretty sure Mark Wahlberg doesn't need to play the game, seeing as how all he needs to do in order to play Max Payne is put a constipated look on his face and talk in a low gruff voice.

I myself am not ready for the next generation. I have had the 360 since the first day it hit but it feels like I have barely had time to enjoy. I think they should wait even longer than the usual 5 years. They could put out a new system but I don't think there will be much difference in graphic or power. I also don't feel like spending another $500 right now. Hell this is actually the first time in my years of gaming I would not be able to afford a new generation of systems the first day they would come out.

I hope MS holds out and waits a while longer before they launch a new system. They also better have full BC on the new one because I still have quite a few games I have not finished or played yet.

I hope the Next-Next-Gen Consoles come out in a long time, because the 360 controller is perfect and I couldn't imagine them not switching something on it. Also, to me they haven't really scratched the surface of the power of the 360, and I expect there to be even more monumental titles out soon. Good thing I bought a 360!

you guys got it wrong its not that mark wahlberg wont try the game its that he wont voice the character in the upcoming game.

Damn. At first i was kind of glad that wahlberg was playing payne. I mean, i.m.o he did exceptionally well in "shooter". But to hear that he wont even TRY the game, well, that makes me question if this movie has any creditabllity. I LOVED the games. One of the best in my opinion.

Jeez PoP is gonna get creamed! Going against Shrek is like a nerd going up to Chuck Norris and insulting him. They're both gonna get their a$$es handed to them. And Marky Mark's a bi!ch
