The Scoreboard #8

Mr. Driller Online

Does anyone remember Mr. Driller? It came out on the Dreamcast, as well as the PlayStation, some time ago. It was hard as hell then, and it’s hard as hell now. This time around, Mr. Driller Online holds Achievements at the end of its frustration filled journey! But that still doesn’t make the game easier. The title is also a little misleading as well, considering the online component of this XBLA classic is completely and utterly busted.
Best Achievement – Tireless Block Destroyer (15 pts.) Drill 5,000 Blocks. Because it’s is one of the few Achievements that won’t frustrate the player to the point of eating their controller, it’s worth a mention. Chances are you’ll leap for joy, drop your game-pad, and party yourself stupid when you earn this one.
Worst Achievement – Online Multiplayer (EPIC FAIL) It would be great if it were possible to earn all 80 multiplayer Achievement points without having to sucker a friend in to being whomped 30 times in a row, but the busted lag-fest that Mr. Driller Online boasts makes it impossible to play without everyone quitting within the initial seconds.
Easiest Achievement – Continuous Chain Linker (25 pts.) Chain 30 Blocks in a row. Even button mashers (and let’s face it: we all are) will unlock Continuous Chain Linker in time. Some stages are specifically built around gigantic combos, so, you know, just keep playin’.
Hardest Achievement – God of Arctic Drillers (25 pts.) Dig 5,000m in the North Pole Stage. Netting the Achievement for drilling 1000m makes you feel like you should be immortalized in stone in the center of town. People from far and wide would kneel before you, oh Deity of Dig. Anyone who manages to crunch their way through 5000m of candy colored blocks without suffocating or being squished deserves a spot on a hill near Christ the Redeemer.
Time Investment vs. Payoff – 3 (out of 10) It’s likely that most gamers will unlock the first 50 points within an hour or so of serious play, but anything after that requires some insane skill and tons of luck. You’ll be playing for a long time, unless you’re a Driller god.
Overall – 5 (out of 10) As mentioned, teaming up with a friend who’s willing to be slaughtered online you, and if you really dig in to Mr. Driller’s single player stuff, you’ll come out with about half the points. It’s a tough game that involves hours of trial and error, so if patience isn’t your strong suit, stay away.

Getting most of Assassins' Creed's Achievements just takes time, as it is with most games out there. They're spread out nicely, but when you need a quick boost, you're better off to look somewhere else than a 15 hour epic, or something.

I think most games frome EA games have easy achievements. Assassin's Creed and Skate are a couple.

That Army of Two is a good gamerscore boost ia finally proven. I'm on day 4 with the game, and I have 705/1000 gamerscore in it. Fast stuff indeed.

Ya Mitch, I didn't even know what the achievement was talking about until I accidently found one. The game was alright but the whole sneaking around crap I couldn't stand it just for the one reason you mentioned and that's being spotted by one guy, then being attacked by the whole camp because of that.

I agree with you there, Daze. If I had even known that's where they were, I'd have left 'em alone. I was struggling to avoid the hundreds of enemies that immediately swarm you when you get seen. It doesn't help that you can't attack groups, either.
My biggest issue with it was that it was never mentioned, ever. How am I to know that there are skulls to collect?

The skulls for the skulbagger achievements can only be found when you sneak into the main bases. Once you do a full assault on the base you can no longer find them. I had a hard enough time sneaking through the bases just to get what I needed. I didn't even bother trying to find them all.

I hope that Army of Two gets a good review. I'm getting a nice achievement boost REALLY quickly. I'm at 330/1000 on my second day with the game. And by tomorrow,I should be around 500. The only real bugger about that,is the 'Retirement Savings Plan'. Get 1 billion dollars in multiplayer? Pretty dumb and time-consuming. *Sends message to a friend* Yo,want to boost?
Everything else can be done in about a week, though. (I might be done with this faster than I finished Condemned 2's 1000/1000!)
