Rock Band Download Low-Down: Week 49
WORDS BY: OXM Staff
Each week we’ll run out onto our website stage like roadies and review the latest Rock Band Downloadable Content. Check back every week! (And click here for all of our previous music DLC reviews.)
*NOTE: Each of the songs in this week’s selection costs 160 Microsoft Points ($2). They are also available as a seven-pack download for 880 points ($11).

Nirvana 7-Pack
WHAT ROCKS: Drums! Not that we should be surprised seeing as how Nirvana's drums were done by Dave Grohl, but nearly every song is excellent, featuring charts that, while guilty of repetition at times, are nevertheless great patterns to play. Check out "Breed," "On a Plain," "Stay Away," and "Territorial Pissings."
WHAT SUCKS: Fast, repetitive guitar strumming is mostly mind-numbing. We've seen far worse in other DLC, but it's the low-light of this song pack. The worst part of all, though, is the drum chart on "Polly." It consists of -- are you ready for this -- four notes. Yes, four. You could literally play with three people, and just have the singer whack the drum kit when necessary. "Something in the Way" is almost as dull on drums. Finally, where are the other two songs off of this album? It can't be a lack-of-master-tracks issue. Are they holding back for Rock Band 3?
FINAL VERDICT: Great for drummers (mostly), and fun for vocalists and bassists. It would've carried more weight as a full album download, however.

Then what was Nirvana's song 'I Hate Myself And Want To Die'. Released 1993 on The Beavis and Butthead Experience. ;)

Nirvana and Courtney Love aren't going to license Smells Like Teen Spirit. It is widely seen as the song that killed Kurt Cobain. Licensing it would be terribly morbid. And no matter how broke or Strung out Courtney gets, she can't license Teen spirit, because Novoselic and Grohl co-wrote it and own 2/3 of the rights. I have no idea abotu Lithium and Come as you are.
Nirvana refused to play "Teen Spirit" live from 1993 on, because Kurt felt it had turned the band into corporate commercial rock stars and media figures, which he never wanted to be and found repellent. "Rape Me" was about the process of commercializing the song and the band.
In his suicide note, Cobain claimed he felt like a hypocrite and a fraud because of his rock star status, and that the pressure and attention was too much. He had previously blamed "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the band's breakthrough, his rock star status, and his misery. So don't expect "Smells like teen spirit" it would be like marketing Cobain's corpse

I only bought Breed, but if Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, or Heart Shaped Box (maybe) I'd buy those on the spot. I consider Nirvana an okay band, not destine for the RnR HoF, but not garbage music.

Out of the 7 songs, I only got Breed. Breed is definitally one of the stronger song choices in the pack. I just wonder why the only 3 songs that werent released from "Nevermind" (Smells Like Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, Lithium) are the three most wanted songs from the cd

Haha! Wait, are you saying you only have to hit the drum pads 4 times in the whole song? (Polly). That's hilarious! An easy way to get your expert drummer achievement!
