"Why don't I like Fallout 3? I just am not getting into it. I'm about 4 hours in and I'm supposed to be looking for a radio station. I am taking my time, doing some exploring and really trying to enjoy it. While I'm playing though, all I can think about is wanting to play something else."

Rock Band Download Low-Down: Week 40

WORDS BY: OXM Staff

Each week we’ll run out onto our website stage like roadies and review the latest Rock Band Downloadable Content. Check back every week! (And click here for all of our previous music DLC reviews.)

*NOTE: Each of the songs this week is only available as a single and costs 160 Microsoft Points ($2), except "Get Your Rock On," which costs 80 Microsoft Points ($1).

"Rio" by Duran Duran

WHAT ROCKS: The opening bass solo, and the bass chart in general.
WHAT SUCKS: The guitar and drum parts are highly repetitive and not all that fun to play.
FINAL VERDICT: Great song? Yes! But it's just not very enjoyable in the gameplay sense.

--

"Girls on Film" by Duran Duran

WHAT ROCKS: Vocals and bass!
WHAT SUCKS: Another highly repetitive guitar chart. Drums aren't so hot either.
FINAL VERDICT: See a pattern yet?

--

"Through Being Cool" by Devo

WHAT ROCKS: Saving $2 by skipping this track.
WHAT SUCKS: Endlessly repetitve vocals, guitar, bass, and drums. Ugh!
FINAL VERDICT: This tune is simply not a good fit for Rock Band.

--

"Girl U Want" by Devo

WHAT ROCKS: Drums aren't half bad.
WHAT SUCKS: What's with the mind-numbing repetition? Watch this guitar part and tell us that's fun. We doubt you will.
FINAL VERDICT: Is it next week yet? Rush's full Moving Pictures album should redeem this week's poor showing.

--

"Get Your Rock On" by The Janitors

WHAT ROCKS: From the soundtrack of the upcoming film American Mall, this Radio Disney-friendly tune is unexpectedly catchy even for us grown-ups. Guitar will keep your fingers active, the drum pattern is surprisingly interesting, and we dare someone at your party to get drunk enough to sing the poppy lyrics.
WHAT SUCKS: Bass is quite straightforward. It is also a painfully obviously focus-tested song.
FINAL VERDICT: This tune is so saccharine sweet it'll probably give you a cavity, but you can't help but enjoy the taste a little bit. Especially for just a buck.

COMMENTS:

I respectfully disagree. I enjoyed the Duran tracks a LOT. The basslines of both songs on Expert redeem them to *at least* Not Bad.

As for Devo, it's punk rock with synth parts. Maybe it's not a good fit; punk seems to be hit and miss with music games, and usually, it winds up as "miss." (See "Story of My Life" in GH3, which I just find to be intolerably boring.)

I know I have a love for the material in question, but damn. Harsh.

This was very pathetic, god bless me just being able to purchase Life is Beautiful, Rescue Me, B.Y.O.B., and Snow ((Hey Oh)). I am not a huge Rush fan either, so I might have to wait with these songs for a bit. These songs bring back memories of playing "Still Alive" and "Sprode" during Band World Tour. Makes me want to break my mic, but I can survive simply by going to play some Motley Crue and other fun songs like Flirtin' with Disaster and Run to the Hills.

Duran Duran, Devo, and American Mall? Yeah, good DLC...right.

One thing to note: Duran Duran did not re-record their tracks. Devo did.

wow, worst week since the fall out boy dlc. if you have half a mind and guitar hero 3 your better off with the DRAGONFORCE TRACK PACK. the DRAGONFORCE TRACK PACK is the most fun ive ever had with music game dlc. if they put up a BUCKETHEAD TRACK PACK i would be in heaven. i cant wait for the full album release of death magnetic.

You neglected to mention the vocals factor for Rio, and that it's actually a bit hit being released for DLC (which is a big plus for playing with friends).

Also get your facts straight: the Devo songs were re-recorded, not Duran Duran's.

Brutal. Just brutal.

Harmonix is releasing 20-23 free tracks for rock band 2 cause they counldn't put it all on the disc, but you can only get them free if you buy rock band 2

Rock Band at least kept its promise with weekly DLC. And I cant decide whether to get Guitar Hero WT or Rock Band 2! (games only)

Another horrible week of DLC. Is Rock Band 2 here yet.
