Guitar Hero Download Low-Down: Muse Track Pack

WORDS BY: OXM Staff

Whenever Activision releases fresh Guitar Hero III tracks via Xbox Live, we'll run out onto our website stage like roadies and review the latest downloadable content. Check back often!

The Muse Track Pack contains three songs for 500 Microsoft Points ($6.25). The tracks are not available for individual sale.

Muse Track Pack

WHAT ROCKS: Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" kicked everybody's asses in the career mode of Guitar Hero III; now the band is back to wreak more havoc. "Stockholm Syndrome" is the biggest song here (both in length and fame), and it's the one that will give Expert guitarists the kind of punishing opening riff they crave -- good luck with that. "Super Massive Black Hole" brings a funky groove (and a fun falsetto vocal) to the party, which you'll enjoy...at least at first.

WHAT SUCKS: The repetition of the riffs brings them down, especially on "Exo-Politics" which settles into its mid-tempo groove and never seems to go anywhere. If you're not already into Muse, these tracks are okay to play, but not great. And if you are into the band, you'll be asking yourself why these tracks were chosen over more interesting songs like "Hysteria."

FINAL VERDICT: These are not the kind of songs that will get you all fired up and feel like a rock star, but it is nice to see this critically acclaimed band get a little more mainstream attention. Ultimately, your fandom determines your need to purchase or pass.

COMMENTS:

Stockholm Syndrome is easily the best of the pack. While Exo-Politcs and supermassive Blackhole are both excellent songs, they aren't really Guitar Heroish; I would have prefered songs like Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, Plug in Baby, Muscle Museum, Microcuts, and Butterflies and Hurricanes.

I figured SilentM3rcenary would be all over this article.

I love Muse, so naturally I bought it. All I have to say is... wow, Stockholm Syndrome is incredibly fun to play.
