Choke!
WORDS BY: Paul Curthoys, Ryan McCaffrey, Dan Amrich, & Corey Cohen
Bad endings suck, and way too many of 2008's best games really collapsed when it came time to wrap things up. Sure, the journeys were great — and in some cases, they were breathtaking! — but nothing leaves a sour aftertaste like a story that flames out after a dozen hours (or sometimes, dozens of hours) of gaming to get there. But rather than just grump about it, we’re here to present our ideas for how these biggies of ’08 could’ve come to a graceful conclusion — and maybe, just maybe, to inspire the creators of 2009’s games to end them with less of a thud. And if not…well, at least we got to grump about it!
Fable II
WHAT WENT WRONG?: So…we spent 20 or so hours tracking down the Heroes of Strength, Will, and Skill…so they could stand in a circle and shoot lasers out of their chests? Sure, we got in a brief rumble with one of those upside-down pyramid-thingies, but we were crushed that we didn’t do some serious adventuring with them. And we would’ve really liked some more interesting options than just “kill Lucien” — especially for a story that’s otherwise so deeply about making choices.

HOW WE’D REWRITE IT: First off, we’d send your hero and the three musketeers on a meaty quest, like, say, fi nding a wise old monk (or something) who knew what Theresa was really up to in assembling all four of you. Sure, your character has plenty of reasons for wanting to punch Lucien’s ticket, but after laboring for Theresa for so long, we really, really wondered what she was after. Then we’d end with a big confrontation between the heroes, Lucien, and Theresa in the Spire, and give you choice after tantalizing, devastating choice for how it all wraps up.
READER RESPONSE: OXM forum member slappypyne called Fable II’s ending “the biggest videogaming letdown of 2008,” while Welcome Ghosts said: “A music box? Really? I was playing for hours to shoot a music box? Sorry, I was hoping for something a little better. Especially since I was mourning the loss of my dog at the time.”
RAGE-O-METER: 7

I would keep the original endding. With one change, just before Nicole jumps out at you. You hear a stattic filled radio broadcast. It's the "US Intrepid" A sister planet cracking ship, when you go to warn them not to go to the colony, or board the USG Ishimura, when "BAM" THE END role creddits.

The ending for Dead Space got you thinking about what happened to Issac and will there be another game, what will it be about. The entire game was scary if you played it on a hard enough difficulty it was a very scary game due to its clever usage of lighting and sound and scaring you in a unique way that we dont see in games today. Every thing would be scilent then an attack these days we have games like Resident Evil 5 where there is music playing just before an atack and finishes when theres no one left, making it very predictable.

Dark5tar1, Really? Because I've never seen that ending before in a video game. It's in CoD 1 I've herd, but I never got to play that game due to our computer being terrible.

Lucky for us, Bethesda is releasing the DLC Broken Steel, which does exactly what we want. It lets you run around the world again, and level up to 30! Good times.

Ok if everyone is so pissed about the lvl 20 thing and how the game ends why dosen't someone at OXM talk to Bethesda and Todd Howard and ask them to make a DLC pack that changes the game so you can keep playing and you can lvl up to like lvl 100 but the game gets progressively harder as you lvl up more.
I think a creative way to do this is to not change you into a goul like the people at OXM suggested but have your Dad the one that you spent the whole damn game looking for revive you in some way.I think that even if they put the DLC up for 15$ people will still buy it because i know i will. This will be a great way to get more people to buy the game who were holding off on buying it because it ends and i think that Bethesda will be happy and we will be happy to spend some more time with the great game Fallout 3.
P.S:It would also be nice if you add some more quests.

The ending of CoD: WaW has been seen so many times, I can still remember doing that on CoD1. Anyway, I ABSOLUTELY HATED Halo 2's ending due to the enormous cliffhanger (I knew that everyone else freaked out about it)

Wow.
CoD:WaW ending sucked? No. No it did not. Planting the flag on the Reichstag is a fantastic, epic way to end a WWII game.
CoD:4's ending sucked, with the game ending in the middle of a fire-fight, followed by a slightly interactive cut scene.
Both 4 and WaW are fantastic games, in fact, all CoD games are great, regardless of the setting. But come on, unorigional? WWII ended one way.
And your alternative ending is just insulting.
